A Tribute To My Ye Ye

August 18th, 2008 @ 1:15 pm by Mrs. Toucan

My Ye Ye (grandfather) passed away this weekend. It was neither a surprise, nor was it expected. He lived to the ripe old age of 94. He never suffered from any long-term sickness or disease. We are thankful that he passed in the best way possible–peacefully in his sleep.

As selfish as it sounds, I am so thankful that he made it to our wedding.

It was such a joyous day, and we were so fortunate to share it with so many family and friends. It meant a lot that Ye Ye was there. It ended up being the last time I saw him.

A Tribute To My Ye Ye : wedding Grandpa01I am so, so thankful that my last memories of him were so happy. He was there to celebrate the happiest day of my life. He lived a full, full life, and it makes it easier to cope with the loss.

:( this is making me teary eyed! I’m very sorry about your loss. Its not selfish at all to be glad he was able to make your wedding; what more could a grandfather want other than to be able to attend his granddaughter’s wedding at 94 years of age? It seems as though he has lived a long and fufilling life, especially now that he was able to witness your marriage.

I’m so sorry for your loss Mrs. Toucan! You and your family are in my thoughts! And I don’t feel that your appreciation that he was there is selfish at all. I’m sure that he feels the same way! Having volunteered with a Hospice organization, I’ve heart that it’s not uncommon for folks to “hold on” until a special event occures or certain people arrive. That may have been his unconscious wedding gift to you! Again, you’re in my thoughts.

I’m so sorry for your lost. This especially touches me because my ye ye passed away this past december and will not be at my wedding this october. You are very lucky to have him at your wedding and I am sure he enjoyed every minute of seeing his grandchild walk down the aisle.
