We made it up the aisle in one piece! The wind started to pick up and I can distinctly remember tripping all over my veil and dress. Surprisingly, I only face-planted once in the evening, and luckily no one was around to witness it except our photographers and Mr. Penguin, who is used to me falling on my face fairly often.

Mr. Peng stood in wait for my dad to hand me off. We waited.

And waited. I think in a moment of panic, my dad totally forgot that he was supposed to give me away. He just kind of stood there in-between Mr. Penguin and I, and it was really quite strange.

Awwwwkward….

Yes, dad, you are supposed to give me away and sit down. My dad laughed at himself for messing up his one job! I just love this picture.

Doh!

Our ceremony was so intimately personal. Our officiant spent weeks crafting our ceremony! She interviewed us about our lives. Even though I have known her for almost 20 years, she wanted to make sure she covered every base! She repeatedly wanted to discuss the ceremony contents with me, but I was really intent on having it be somewhat of a surprise, and I trusted her judgment. It ended up being amazing. I didn’t cry the whole time, save for once, when her words struck a chord in my heart. I wanted to share that particular portion of the ceremony that meant so much to me with you all:
Never miss an opportunity to tell each other that you love each other. Early, often, with words and deeds. A question that I ask my husband on almost an everyday basis is, “Have I told you I love you today?”
Whether he says yes or no, my response is, “Well, I love you today. And it doesn’t mean that I didn’t love you yesterday, or I won’t love you tomorrow, but I love you right, right now.”
Remember that you two are individuals, and you don’t have to clone each other to have a successful marriage. Pursue your personal passions. Marriage is the essence of human relationships. It challenges us to be of one accord without abandoning the truth of our individuality.
Mid-way through the ceremony, I began to scan the crowd and was really excited to see all our friends that had traveled so far to be with us!
The ceremony went by in a blur. It was an incredibly short 30 minutes! I loved slipping that ring on Mr. Penguin’s finger!
Smooch-a-doodles!
Seven years in the making!
And then, a cultural ceremony…
Relive the day of the Penguins…
