Photos and Memories

August 19th, 2008 @ 1:55 pm by Mrs. Cookie

As we approach the “I Dos,” this last month is going to be a blitz of DIY projects! Escort cards, programs, bridesmaids gifts and our aisle runner, oh my! Yes, this cookie procrastinated a wee bit (two jobs really puts a kink in DIY time), but armed with my trusty Gocco and Photoshop I will accomplish my DIY mission on time! Last night, I completed Project Photos and Memories.

To surround our guest book, I wanted old wedding photographs to honor the marriages that came before us and to remember those who have passed. I thought this would be a small, sentimental project taking no time at all, but in the end took me six months to complete!

But Miss Cookie it’s just a bunch of photos and frames, why did it take you so long? Answer: An army of Mr. Cookie’s family members on a search mission to find the wedding photos. With only one living grandparent on Mr. Cookie’s side of the family, the wedding photographs from both grandparents were inherited by his aunts and uncles and subsequently lost. So instead, Mr. Cookie’s Mom and Dad substituted wedding photos for portraits of their parents. They work just fine, although we still have an APB out for the wedding photos!

Next, I found frames at Ross, TJ Maxx, and Target between $3.99 -$12.00 and this cute little stand at a local antique store for $20. In the frame I put,

“For those who are no longer with us,

a candle has been lit in their memory.”

How are you remembering those who are no longer with us?

I really like this idea! We’re planning on putting photos of people who couldn’t attend, be it because they’ve passed, or in the case of my almost 90 year old Granny that lives in Utah, because they couldn’t make the trip. We’re also going to put photos of our pets there as to not totally bum our families out.

This looks fantastic! And, I agree, such a nice sentimental gesture. Love it.

Question for the group…. when doing this, what did you do for pareents that have remarried? My fiance’s mom & dad are divorced and his dad remarried. I’d like to include his mom & dad’s wedding photo, as well as his dad & step-mom’s wedding photo. Is that what you ladies have done? Wondering what the word is on etiquette.

@Katie: My parents are divorced, although neither remarried, and I am displaying their wedding photo. I asked first just to make sure they were comfortable with it.

I want to do the exact same thing. I hope it doesn’t take too long to get this organized!
