I didn’t put too much thought into what our guests should throw at us after we walked down the aisle for the first time as man and wife. I was actually going to do nothing at all. Being on a cliff by the ocean, I did know that if we were to do something, we would take our surroundings into consideration. That being said, bubbles were the perfect solution!
While Mr. Lovebird and I were browsing Michael’s for some last minute DIY craft supplies, on pure impulse, I picked up a box of party bubbles and a bottle of paper flowers. I wasn’t a fan of the bottles with the novelty tops and decided I would spruce up the plain bottles myself. When I got home, I grabbed leftover ribbon in our wedding colors and my box of glue dots and got to work.
Easy peasy!!! I know, I know, it’s not the most awesome DIY project, but I was hoping our guests felt the love I put into each little bottle. Mind you, I was doing this two days before we had to leave for Cancun.
Word of advice: Have someone, like an usher, tell your guests what the bubbles are for. When Mr. Lovebird and I walked down the aisle, no one blew the bubbles! I actually didn’t notice until I looked at the pictures. Although, they didn’t go to waste! Our younger guests got a kick out of them after the ceremony. Not only were they blowing their hearts out after the ceremony, it was like a scavenger hunt as the little ones tried to get their hands on as many of the bottles as they could get.
Reminds of a quote from one of my favorite movies, Knocked Up:
Ben: “They seem to love bubbles.”
Pete: “Oh, god, they go ape shit over bubbles.”
Ben: “They’re really going ape shit.”
Pete: “I mean, that’s an incredible thing about a child. I mean, what’s so great about bubbles?”
Ben: “They float. You can pop them. I mean, I get it. I get it.”
Pete: “I wish I liked anything as much as my kids like bubbles.”
What little details did you put into the wedding that will most likely go unnoticed?
I love that quote from Knocked Up. It’s surprisingly poignant.
