Oh Happy Day: Get Me to the Church on Time!

———————————————————-
So many times, we, as brides, talk about wedding perfection. After having our “perfect wedding,” I can tell you it’s the little hiccups along the way that make it memorable. Our ceremony hiccup was probably the most memorable of them all - after all who almost forgets to… oops! Actually, let me start from the beginning. :)

After waiting in the downstairs chapel for what almost felt like an eternity, we were finally ready to get hitched!

Mr. Toucan and his Best Man wait at the end of the aisle while the procession begins.

The ceremony started without a hitch, and the procession processed:

Mr. Toucan’s parents, followed by my mom, escorted by my cousin

The girls look great in blue, don’t you think?

Our flower girls looked so darling! We had 6 of them plus 1 ring bearer!

After all the kids got seated, and my MOH sister got up to the front…
It was my turn.
I think Mr. Toucan looks happy to see me coming…

(I totally realize this picture was posted before, but I just love it so much)

Daddy Toucan “gives me away”:
And Mr. Toucan and I make it all the way up to the front.

Isn’t the church beautiful? Mr. Toucan’s parents were also married there - 30 years ago!

Most of the ceremony was kind of a blur - until we got to the vows part…
For most of the ceremony, we stood side by side, and kept sneaking glances at each other. When we finally got to say our vows, we were able to look at each other face to face…

I love the way he looks at me.

And, then we exchanged rings…
I had moved my engagement ring over to my right hand, so that Mr. T could put my new wedding band on my left hand. Apparently, that confused Mr. Toucan - he kept trying to put my ring on my right hand with my e-ring! You can kind of see in the picture above how he’s holding my right hand. I tried to sneak my left hand up there casually, but I ended up having to shove my left hand up. Mr. Toucan told me later that I should have told him that I was planning on moving the my e-ring to my right hand.

My turn to ring Mr. Toucan:
And then, we were pronounced the new Mr. and Mrs. Toucan!
But wait a second!

I didn’t show you the kiss! No, I’m not too shy to show you the smoochie smoochie. It just didn’t happen yet…

You see earlier in the ceremony, when we had first gotten up to the altar, the priest asked us how we were feeling. We both said we were a little nervous, so he asked us to “embrace each other” so that we felt better. After we said our vows and exchanged our rings, he again said, “please embrace.” So naturally, we did this:
We hugged each other. Yup. HUGGED. No kiss.

After we let go, we faced forward again, and both realized that maybe that was when we were supposed to kiss. We whispered to each other back and forth,

“Were we supposed to kiss?”
“I don’t know.”
“Did we miss it?”
“Maybe, we missed it.”
“Maybe it’s at the end.”
“I think we were supposed to.”

See, here, I look worried. Did we miss our first kiss?

After, we were introduced as the new Mr. and Mrs., I knew it. We missed it. For the whole rest of the ceremony our whispering continued…

“I think we missed it.”
“Yeah, I think so.”
“Should I say something?”
“Maybe we didn’t. Maybe it’s at the end.”

So on went the ceremony, and finally I sense that the priest is wrapping it up. He starts to hand me back my bouquet and is ready to send us down the aisle. It was now or never, and I wasn’t about to leave our wedding ceremony WITHOUT kissing my new husband!

I quickly leaned forward to the priest, and urgently whispered,

“WAIT, I haven’t kissed him yet!!!”

A look of shock came over his face “WHAT?! You didn’t kiss him?!” he exclaimed VERY loudly. I quickly shook my head no, embarrassed. He quickly snatched back my bouquet, and said, “Please.”

We almost missed it, but we got our kiss…
… and a story to tell. :)

We did the same thing, I don’t think its very well defined in a catholic mass. I whispered to the priest, when do we get to kiss… then we did, and my hubby made a spectal of it…

@Valerie: Thanks! :) The dress is Tara Keely Style #TK2703, and I had my seamstress alter the top a little bit so the sweetheart neckline wasn’t so severe.

JuleB says:

I loved your veil! Do you know what your dimentions were (fullness at the top by the comb and at the bottom)? Also, was it bridal illusion or silk tulle? That is exactly what I want! thanks! you look GORGEOUS!

43.
Bee Icon
Mrs. Toucan says:

@JuleB: Thanks! It’s nothing fancy actually, because I wasn’t sure I was going to wear it! I bought it off ebay for $18 (including shipping!). I believe the material is pretty cheap, but I think you can only tell if you touched it. It was a 1 tier cathedral cut edge veil. 108″ in length and 72″ (I think) in width.
