Sparklers Celebration

August 20th, 2008 @ 4:49 pm by Mrs. Green Tea

I really wanted to incorporate sparklers into the wedding, but not for the typical exit routine since we want to stick around ’til the very end. So instead, we’re setting a time and a song for a ‘Sparklers Celebration’ when guests will be encouraged to slow dance along side us with a sparkler in hand.

For display, we’ll put them in a vase and it’ll serve as a centerpiece for our escort card table:

We bought 96 of these 36″ sparklers which last for four minutes so it will last long enough for a song. Dang, they were enormous (well… 36″)! I asked the mister to pose with it like it’s a light saber, though he refused then, I have a feeling a lit one will bring out a Jedi move or two on the day of.

I hope it’ll make some fun pictures. If nothing else, the kids (ok, and I) will have a blast with them!

Have you ever been to a wedding with sparklers?

I haven’t been to a wedding with any, but my photographer just used sparklers in a really amazing way for some engagement photos (scroll down to the bottom):

I really wanted sparklers for our grand exit, but alas since we are in a national forest, and due to the fire danger, no sparklers allowed! :(

:( I wanted sparklers for my exit also but in the state of Virginia there illegal:(

I too would love to use sparklers but our reception is in a barn. Don’t want our party to literally be a “barn burner”!!!

what an awesome and beautiful idea!
we’ve been looking for an alternative to rice/confetti for our beach wedding and these sparklers would be the perfect solution; they photograph so well too!
cant’ wait to see how your pics will turn out!

Not to be a party pooper, but dancing with sparklers sounds dangerous. What about having your guests hold the sparklers and form a circle around you during your first dance? It would let people concentrate more on the fire, while still creating the same scene.

Oooh I wanted sparklers too - but everyone keeps saying that there’s too much dry grass around at that time of the year…

Not allowed in our venue! Although frankly, I wouldn’t have wanted sparklers that close to my dress anyway. I assume you have checked with your venue to make sure it’s okay?

@Miss Cookie: I’ve always wanted sparklers too but I have the same problem with my venue.

Green Tea- your photos are going to look awesome of everyone dancing with their sparklers

I would second what Erin said. Having people dance in couples on a probably crowded dance floor with little kids running around (cause ya know they will be) with flaming things in their hands seems like recipe for disaster. I would also suggest the idea of having them dance around you (in a big circle, scrapping the couples part of it) for maybe either your first dance or a dance with the whole wedding party in the center. Just my opinion though. Either way hope ya get some great pics out of it

These are sweeeeet! I’ve never been to one with sparklers though I was convinced my friend would have them at her July 4th wedding last month (she didn’t). These look super fun!

My fiance actually proposed to me with a sparkler, so I think this is a GREAT idea that I might try to incorporate into my wedding!

@suzanno: yup! first thing we did was make sure venue was cool with it. we purchased insurance for the event so they gave it the green light! also, i’m fortunate (and unfortunate) that i could care less about my dress. if i wasn’t planning on donating it afterwards, i’d almost hope for some burn marks to take pics of and blog about when i return!
@Erin: @BrideDIY: totally valid point, which i also thought about! our venue is outdoors and the area for dancing is plenty expandable, plus we’ll make sure the dj announce the celebration with a mention to give each other space! i love the pics from the circle thing but frankly, that much attention makes me more uncomfortable than anything. :P

I really like the container and the set-up of escort cards and sparklers. Those are big sparklers, they should definitely not burn out when you are exiting!
