What’s Your Flavor?

August 20th, 2008 @ 4:00 pm by Mrs. Hot Cocoa

A friend of mine reports that at a bridal shower this weekend, they played a fun little icebreaker inspired in part by my post on bridal party invitations. Since this is the first time I’ve inspired anything other than complete and utter chaos, I am feeling very self-congratulatory. Woo hoo!

You might remember that I gave our bridal party a bottle of Soy Vay as “a little flavor of our wedding”:

And in my post I wrote:

Mr. HC and I find Soy Vay hilarious. Like our wedding, Soy Vay is “produced by a Chinese girl and a Jewish boy.” And like us, Soy Vay is kosher, delicious, and saucy.

Since they had a kitchen shower, the ladies at the shower my friend attended were each asked to bring 1) a food item that represented the wedding couple and 2) a food item that represented their own relationship or relationship status. Hilarity supposedly ensued, though I remain skeptical until proof is offered. (At the last wedding shower I went to, I seriously thought about upping the fun quotient by stabbing myself in the eye with a fondue fork.)

Well, hive, I ask you: What food item would you choose to represent your relationship or wedding? Are you spicy, sweet, salty, or sour? Organic, processed, or preserved?

Maybe a baked brie for us. Brie being a french cheese and the baked version more common in the US than in France…

Or something weird like a croissant with peanut butter.

Thas hilarious! We would have to pick 2 food items. He is an adventurous eater, and I never knew other parts of the world even HAD food until I moved to Vegas. (Lived in the DEEP SOUTH for YEARS where there is hardly any culture….)
Me- Sweet, processed
Him- Spicy, organic
I really enjoy your posts!

So cute! We’re both home-bodies and Midwestern at heart, so it’d probably be some kind of comfort food - mashed potatoes, meat loaf, mac and cheese, something like that.

Oh I might have to steal that for my upcoming shower that I’m hosting as MOH to my BFF! So funny.

Meanwhile, we’re totally chocolate covered pretzels - sweet and smooth on the outside, salty and crunchy (read: hippies) on the inside!

@MrsFroggy: Yum. Baked brie with peanut butter.
@Mandy: Deep South = I’m jealous. Fried chicken!
@triciaj: Mac ‘n cheese — such a good one. Mr. HC and I are definitely cheesy.
@Broke-Ass Bride: Thank goodness I brought some Trader Joe’s chocolate cover pretzel bites with me to Hong Kong. I’m now totally craving them!
@Mrs. Bee: Sweet and spicy, like Thai food!

@Broke-Ass Bride: I don’t know how crafty you are, but my mom does thing with pretzel rods that is both beautiful and delicious. She dips the big rods in melted dark chocolate and lets them dry by sticking the un-dipped end in a styrofoam block. You could dip them and then roll the chocolate in sprinkles in your wedding colors. Come to think of it, I might do that for my engagement party!

s’mores! aside from it being my favorite food, i think s’mores depict us perfectly. they’re sweet and melty, but so much fun! they’re so messy but totally worth it. have you actually ever seen anyone frown while eating a s’more?!

Mrs. Hot Cocoa:

I miss your blogs! I’m 6 months from my wedding, and I mentioned to FI what you did with Soy Vay, and now, he really wants to give Soy Vay as our favors. If we do it, I was wondering if I could “borrow” your tag line of “produced by a Chinese girl and a Jewish boy.” And like us, Soy Vay is kosher, delicious, and saucy.” Well, I’m Filipino, so I”m changing the Chinese girl to “Asian” girl. What do you say?? Come back, Come back to the Weddingbee blog.

@brendaman: Aw, that’s so sweet of you! Of course you can borrow!! Please do! We really wanted to give out Soy Vay as the favor, but a) it was too expensive, and b) most of our guests were from out of town, and we thought it would be a pain for them to get it home given the no liquids rule on flights.

I’m totally gearing up to finish my recaps. We purchased and moved to our new place in August, so it was just a bit hectic. It’s so motivating to know that someone actually reads and cares. Thanks!!
