Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Skiing source

I haven’t experienced many winter weddings, but there’s something about the idea of a snowy wedding that I just love. Obviously, there’s going to be a ton of snow at our February wedding in Vail, Colorado, so I’ve been thinking about ways to make our winter wedding unique, and… well… wintery.

There are several approaches to a winter wedding. The festive theme with romantic deep reds, candlelight and twinkly lights provides a wonderful backdrop for the big day.

This color scheme is so natural for this time of year, and in fact can save you a bundle on flower arrangements if your wedding is around the holidays. Deep reds can be stunning against a white dress (or in my case, champagne dress). Here are some of my favorite bouquets for a winter festive wedding.

Bouquet of oriental lilies, white mums, and roses

Black beauty roses, simple but very pretty

I love this bouquet… so romantic!

Gorgeous deep colors…

And for the bride that wants just a touch of deep hues

Ceremony and reception decor can also be very warm and romantic for a winter wedding. I love the simplicity of these small lanterns hung from the church pews here.

Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Church Candles add so much romance to any reception. Branches and deep colors also add to this winter themed wedding below.

Little flower girl faux fur wraps! Too cute!

And for the winter cakes, there are so many options using this color scheme:

Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Present

This present cake is perfect for a Christmas time wedding!

Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Damask

And since we all know I’m a damask kinda gal, this one is my fave.

My dad used to own a restaurant in Vail on the golf course. In the winter, the golf course and the restaurant teamed up with a local sleigh company for sleigh rides. I honestly thought that it was a completely normal Friday night activity… riight. A unique exit “car” could be a horse drawn carriage, or a sleigh!!

Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Horsed

So romantic! The town of Vail actually has heated streets and there are carriages with Clydesdale horses that give rides through the town. We’re seriously considering it to give ourselves a little time alone before the reception.

Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Sleighr

How about a sleigh ride! This picture makes me think of the movie “White Christmas”, a movie I’m slightly embarrassed to say I love (that and Pollyanna- the classics).

And finally, when the long day is over, why not end it with a snow angel?!

Winter Wedding Inspiration: The Festive Celebration! : wedding vail Snowang

There are so many other winter themes… more to come!

Any winter brides out there? How are you incorporating the season into your details?

I think there’s something so romantic and timeless about a winter wedding. If I could put in my two cents…a hot chocolate bar! A beautiful ceremony to warm the heart and sugary goodness to warm the body.

I looooove winter weddings. I’m getting married 8/31, but our original plan was for a 12/20 wedding so we could take off for our honeymoon and spend our first christmas as husband and wife alone together somewhere tropical. His mom hated it. Oh well. I can’t wait to see mroe!! :)

OMG. If there’s snow on my wedding day (and in Michigan we never know if there will be snow in February…) I NEED to get a picture of us making snow angels! That’s just adorable.

So far the season isn’t explicitly being brought out in our wedding (though yesterday Mom and I picked up some purple ribbon with silver snowflakes on it that could be making an appearance). Mostly we’re sticking with things like the dramatic color palette, only we’re using deep purple and gray instead of dark red. I wanted something winter-y, but wasn’t feeling the red for some reason :-) I think the purple is still going to make a dramatic statement!

Don’t be embarrased about White Christmas in my family we always wrap gifts with that movie on. That present cake is amazing it looks like boxes stacked up not cakes. I best the price is just as crazy. Damask cakes makes me think of that post with the horrible cake that has been going around. The snow angels could make great trash the dress type photots

We’re having a January wedding and decided to go with a platinum and sapphire color scheme with natural brown accents (think bare branches). Very wintry. :)

I’ve been recently putting together inspiration boards, and it’s been a little tough finding fodder, so maybe it’s an unusual palette, I don’t know.

@MsAnge: I’m pretty sure we’ll do the snowangel thing too! Purple and gray was one of the color themes I was thinking too at the beginning! It’ll be beautiful!

@Starry-eyed Barefoot Bride: I love that page too! It’s one of many winter wedding color groups I’ve thought about, too and the baby fur is adorable!

I love the last two bouquets! Very cool. I also love the scheme from White Christmas where they open up the doors to show everybody it’s snowing and the sleigh comes around the corner. I love that movie!

OMG! That’s me and my dad walking down the aisle! *blushing* Thanks for the compliment!

I was half-hoping for snow because it would have been beautiful. On the flip side, I didn’t want any of our guests unable to travel because of snow. February in Rhode Island - we had a pretty good chance of it, but it turned out to be an incredibly sunny, clear day. Oh well!

BTW - more photos from our amazing photographer, Kristin Spencer, can be found on her blog: http://www.kristinspencer.com/blog/C586723384/E20070309140446/index.html
