I haven’t experienced many winter weddings, but there’s something about the idea of a snowy wedding that I just love. Obviously, there’s going to be a ton of snow at our February wedding in Vail, Colorado, so I’ve been thinking about ways to make our winter wedding unique, and… well… wintery.
There are several approaches to a winter wedding. The festive theme with romantic deep reds, candlelight and twinkly lights provides a wonderful backdrop for the big day.

This color scheme is so natural for this time of year, and in fact can save you a bundle on flower arrangements if your wedding is around the holidays. Deep reds can be stunning against a white dress (or in my case, champagne dress). Here are some of my favorite bouquets for a winter festive wedding.

Bouquet of oriental lilies, white mums, and roses

Black beauty roses, simple but very pretty

I love this bouquet… so romantic!

Gorgeous deep colors…

And for the bride that wants just a touch of deep hues…
Ceremony and reception decor can also be very warm and romantic for a winter wedding. I love the simplicity of these small lanterns hung from the church pews here.
Candles add so much romance to any reception. Branches and deep colors also add to this winter themed wedding below.

Little flower girl faux fur wraps! Too cute!
And for the winter cakes, there are so many options using this color scheme:

This present cake is perfect for a Christmas time wedding!

And since we all know I’m a damask kinda gal, this one is my fave.
My dad used to own a restaurant in Vail on the golf course. In the winter, the golf course and the restaurant teamed up with a local sleigh company for sleigh rides. I honestly thought that it was a completely normal Friday night activity… riight. A unique exit “car” could be a horse drawn carriage, or a sleigh!!

So romantic! The town of Vail actually has heated streets and there are carriages with Clydesdale horses that give rides through the town. We’re seriously considering it to give ourselves a little time alone before the reception.

How about a sleigh ride! This picture makes me think of the movie “White Christmas”, a movie I’m slightly embarrassed to say I love (that and Pollyanna- the classics).
And finally, when the long day is over, why not end it with a snow angel?!

There are so many other winter themes… more to come!
Any winter brides out there? How are you incorporating the season into your details?
