Our Tahitian Honeymoon! Pt. I - Woah, We're Married and We're in Tahiti! : wedding honeymoon los angeles Z161225 z161225

This is our first picture together on the first day of our married life together!

After possibly the most amazing whirlwind day of our lives (that afforded us only two hours of sleep!), we sleepily headed to Los Angeles International Airport in the wee hours of the morning. We really couldn’t believe that the wedding was over, we were MARRIED, and we were on our way to the South Pacific!

I was so tired, but only slept a little bit on the plane - It was all the adrenaline! If the wedding day wasn’t enough of a mix of emotions, the day after was truly the icing on the cake! Excitement/disbelief/exhaustion/relief! We hadn’t truly had time alone in such a long time, and though we already missed our friends, it was so special to finally have it just be the two of us smiley10108.

After a smooth 8-hour flight, before we knew it, we landed at Papeete Airport on the island of Tahiti. As soon as we stepped off the plane and on to the stairs, the humidity confirmed that we definitely weren’t in LA anymore! smiley3025 As we walked across the tarmac toward the airport, we were greeted by smiling Tahitian women who gave us each a Tiare flower, a white, dainty, and very fragrant gardenia that is the national flower of Tahiti.

We had a passerby snap a quick photo of us as we awaited our luggage! We are definitely all smiles! We were later greeted with leis too!

Then it was off to our hotel. Our plan was to spend about 24 hours in Tahiti and relax a bit, before we would make it over to the beautiful island of Moorea.

We had a blissful first evening in Tahiti, just enjoying the resort, some dinner, and then some yummy champagne in our perdy hotel room (and, ahem, some lovely dessert too smiley3025).

The next morning, we got up the next morning and enjoyed some brunch before we would head off to the ferry on our way to Moorea.

I didn’t get a good picture, but it was SO cool, because from the dining deck, we could see all the fish and coral swimming right below us! Even from 10 feet above the water!…no need for snorkels! Beautiful!

Then it was off to catch the ferry!

Next up…Arrival on the beautiful and mystical island of Moorea!

oh man! south pacific! i can’t tell you how happy i am that you posted this! I’ve been running around like a mad woman trying to figure out how to book a honeymoon to the sp. We’re thinking of going to Fiji, but tahiti is def. on the list. I’d love to hear what you thought about it and if it’s a place you’d recommend?

I’m gonna cut this short so i can click on the link to your old post ;)

Oh memories! We were in French Polynesia in June/July and spent our first night at the Sheraton Tahiti before heading off to Moorea. Can’t wait to hear more!

@Nada: Would definitely recommend it!! :-) Not so much the island of Tahiti, but the island of Moorea, where we spent most of our time! Moorea is just so incredibly gorgeous, relatively remote and private, and the perfect place for a getaway. If you want a more bustling area, Bora Bora is probably a better island for that since it is more touristy (and some also say it is more beautiful). But if you are looking for a real getaway where you feel like the island is really yours, Moorea is the place to go! I’ve never been to Fiji though, so it’s hard for me to make that comparison!

Ahhh, Tahiti. We went there too (Moorea & Bora Bora. Paradise!), and I remember that first slightly surreal moment of thinking, we’re married and we’re on a plane to Tahiti! You can’t beat that!

Oh wow — I want to go!

I hate to admit it, but we’re costco junkies and they have some fantastic deals to Tahiti/Moorea.
