What, No Coconut Cake?!

August 21st, 2008 @ 10:59 am by Mrs. Coconut

Continuing with our wedding planning excursion, we stopped at our baker and picked up our cake tasting. We get the option of picking a different flavor for each tier, but I had no idea the cakes would be this huge! Since we were 35 minutes away from home, and just couldn’t wait any longer, we did a drive-by cake tasting just outside our wedding venue!

We didn’t have a knife, so we just forked it. Ya know.

Later, we staged a faux cake tasting for blogging purposes. I’m always thinking of you guys! The cake will have four tiers and will be covered in buttercream frosting. The first tier will be white cake with almond syrup and a raspberry filling. We originally chose a Bavarian creme filling, but found it was too plain. The white cake is absolutely scrumptious and uber moist.

The second tier will be devil’s food cake with chocolate Bavarian creme filling. It will be perfect for the chocolate lovers!

The third tier is carrot cake with nuts and pineapple, with what else? Oh yes, cream cheese filling. It’s to die for! The fourth tier will likely be the white cake with almond syrup, but we haven’t quite made that decision yet.

Here are the cake flavors in all their glory! We still have a ton of cake in our fridge, so if you’re ever in town and want to stop by, give me a holler!

Did you choose different flavors for your cake tiers or just stick to one flavor?

4 flavors for our 3 tier cake (and a sheet cake in the back)…plus, a different flavor for the groom’s cake the night before…mmm…we couldn’t decide! :)

We’re going with different flavors too - we have our first cake tasting next Tuesday - I’m so freaking excited there are just no words. . . although all three tiers of our wedding cake will be chocolate-less. We’re reserving that for the groom’s cake.

our cake is like one big reese’s peanut butter cup: chocolate cake with peanut butter fudge filling & peanut butter buttercream icing.

i’m incredibly excited about it.

since my niece, and i’m sure a few others, has a peanut allergy, the baker is throwing in a second cake- i told him he could pick what he likes - with non-chocolate cake and a berry or lemon filling.

also, when we signed the contract, he said that they always throw in a cake for the rehersal dinner - our pick of flavors. we’re thinking of ordering his specialty, an “irish car bomb” cake, that is made with guinness & irish liquors. neat-o.

Wow, those are awesome sized cakes!!!

We’re going crazy with flavors. We have a smaller 3-tiered cake with chocolate hazelnut and blackberry-lemon flavors (I’m still tempted to slip in a tier of red velvet). Around the cake will be petite individual desserts - mango-raspberry mousse, cheesecake, and a chocolate mouse duo. Not only does it add variety, we selected for accent color since we’re keeping the cake two-tone.

We figure people can pick what they like, or if the table is friendly enough, sample a little of everything by sharing with friends! We’ve weighed a bit heavier towards the mango-raspberry knowing our heavily Asian guest list.

Our wedding cake is going to be the Paradise Cake from King’s Hawaiian Bakery. It’s the only cake my hubby-to-be will eat! We’re so lucky that they’re down the street from us. It’s 3 flavors: passion fruit, guava, and lime (I think!).

we’re going to be doing cupcakes. not sure what flavors but one will be carrot cake because of an unfortuate promise i made to the bf early in our relationship. ugh, i can’t believe he called my bluff and accepted. lol

Is there anything better than good cake? Ours was white cake w/ lemon mousse, carrot cake w/ pineapple mousse and cream cheese, and chocolate cake w/ peanut butter mousse. We never even got to taste the latter which was our top tier (greedy guests!) That Paradise Cake sounds good though.
