C is For Coconuts and Calligraphy

August 22nd, 2008 @ 3:23 pm by Mrs. Coconut

Let me preface the joy of receiving our envelopes from oh-so-fab calligrapher, Michele Clark that collecting addresses is near impossible! I’m not joking. I think 25 addresses changed between sending our save the dates in March and now. Stop moving people! :)

The envelopes are absolutely beautiful. I think Mr. Coconut was a bit skeptical about paying someone to address our envelopes. Yes, he was totally convinced this was Item No. 254 “unnecessary expense” that contributed to our busted budget. However, when I opened the box this week like the first gift on Christmas morning, there was a glee in his eyes, too! He will never admit it, but he was impressed.

Michele is seriously awesome. She flowed with the aforementioned 25 address edits, and made her wispy style slightly more “wispy.” I had to cut off the addresses, but here’s a sneak peak. I promise to show you more when I reveal our invitations!

Here are the inner envelopes. For our close friends, we scrapped etiquette and used their nicknames. However, for family and distance friends, we stuck to tradition. (Ugh, tradition.)

(This post is dedicated to Mrs. Onion, who introduced me to Michele Clark! She doesn’t have a website, but her email address is calligraphybymichele at verizon.net).

Who else found calligraphy to be an unnecessary, yet beautiful expense?!

Michele is wonderful! She not only does beautiful work, she custom mixed the perfect shade of red ink to match our invites!

I am so glad brides outside of NY are working with her too!

I really wanted calligraphy but we’re so broke-ass it was out of the question. Until I noticed that the little gay manager at my local kinkos has the best writing ever. I asked him and he said he’d do it! I love him forever.

Hooray!! I’m thrilled you are so happy with Michele’s work. It’s so hard to believe she is able to do what she does for such amazing prices! So worth the extra touch :) I’m sure you’re guests will feel special.

Seriously people — just email Michele and ask…the email is free and trust me, you’ll be blown away. None of this $4 per envelope stuff you see everywhere…she is SOOO reasonable.

Calligraphy is great and I would have gone that route had my mom not offered to do the addresses herself, and given that she has the perfect Catholic school handwriting (don’t know if it’s a mid-century Philly thing or what, because my fiance’s mom’s handwriting is IDENTICAL). It’s frightening how perfect her cursive is, especially compared to my printed handwriting–I’m convinced that half of the people I wrote thank you notes to for the shower will think I was drunk while writing them, even though I wasn’t, I swear!!! :-)
