Magnetic STD’s

August 22nd, 2008 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

When Mr. Pinot Noir and I decided on a destination wedding, we knew that we would need to send out Save The Dates so our family and friends could begin making their arrangements. While sending an evite might have been the most eco-friendly option - most of our extended family is not comfortable with technology (as in they don’t have email) so that would have made things rather difficult.

Long ago (pre-engagement) I had fallen in love with the idea of doing a photo booth style save-the-date. After our engagement, I researched all of the photo booths in New York City and compiled a list based on location, price and quality. I planned to take the pictures with super cute cards and then reproduce copies of the photostrip. But then I started to worry (this is not unusual). How many tries would we need to get the right combination of photos. How many booths would we need to visit to get a decent quality? I decided to make a postcard using the photostrip images, and then we wouldn’t need to use envelopes and we would save money and paper (no envelopes!). Visions of creative, unique, DIY save-the-dates danced in my head.

Then reality set in. In the two months after Mr. PN and I got engaged and started planning the wedding, we moved out of our apartment in DC and moved all of our belongings into storage and we subleted a 300 square foot studio in NYC while looking for a permanent apartment. In addition, I graduated college, it was the holiday season, and we both searched/ interviewed/ started new jobs. Needless to say we were super busy and my DIY dreams drifted out the window.

We did end up finding a great compromise that satisfied my photo booth craving. We decided to order custom STD Photo Booth magnets from Magnet Street. We went with the Made For Each Other style and used the photos from our unofficial engagement shoot and one photo from the night we got engaged. We included our wedding website on the magnet so people could get more information. Working with Magnet Street was wonderful. The prices were reasonable (I think we paid $110 total for 50 magnets) and they had a very fast turnaround.

I love the idea of using a magnet because then you know what to do with it and where to find it. I can never seem keep track of paper STD’s - are they on the fridge, in my desk, on the bulletin board?

Did anyone else go with the paperless STD route?

Does the Dress Fit

A photo booth sounds like a great idea! I have seen them at weddings and they are such a hit.

We used Magnet Street too, and were totally happy with how our magnet turned out. We’ve gotten SO many compliments… and a surprising number of people had never seen a magnet STD before, so it was new to them. I highly recommend Magnet Street!

I love your STD, it’s very cute and the price is right too! I am a bit agog at two of you living in a 300 sq. foot apartment, though! O_O I hope you didn’t have to live there for too long!

we used them too! and magnet street is definitely the best. I know there is another company out there where the magnets wear away very quickly and fall off the fridge….and everyone loved them and there were a lot of people who had never seen them before!

We did magnets too and they were great. However, since we did have to mail them in envelopes, I can’t really say they were paper-free!

I fell in love with the photo booth themed save the date on Magnet Street Weddings and created my own. I actually didn’t need to take photos in a booth - a regular camera was fine against a solid color background as long as our faces were close enough together.

You can see it here 1/4 of the way down the page:

@budgetbeautiful:

Living in a 300 sq ft studio apartment was very tough. Makes our current 2 bdrm apartment seem like a mansion. Not sure how we did it but it took a lot of patience and it was a great motivator to go out be social as well as find a new place to live.

We did magnet STDs with a cute cartoon printed on them. We actually just ordered them a few days ago, got the proof back and now are just waiting for them to be delivered. I can’t wait!
