When we decided that we were going to send out save the dates, I learned that I have the biggest crush ever on letterpress. Unfortunately, letterpress is like that star basketball player – totally delectable and unattainable for an average girl like me. I also learned that I really wanted something totally unique, maybe even custom or DIY. This led me to enter into the brave (and impossibly charming) world of Etsy. I. Love. Etsy.
Etsy led me to Ashley, the greatest graphic artist EVER who created our monogram and multi pieced save the date cards.
In the end we were able to print 3 cards that are ever so slightly smaller than a typical A6 card per 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper. I ordered Luxe Cream cardstock from Paper Source and set out to print our little lovelies at Office Max.
As soon as I saw them I teared up. Really.
There was something about seeing our names and the words “Are Getting Married!” that almost did me in. I quickly paid the $23.00 total (how it was that inexpensive, I am still wondering…) and glided home. I unpacked the dreamy, creamy cards and just drooled until Mr. Lemonade got home.

A quick snip of the corner rounder, and they were complete.

We also decided to include magnets with our save the date cards. We originally had no intention of doing magnets, but a while ago, Mr. Lemonade came home from a friend’s house looking quite pleased with himself. I inquired why he was so cheery and he presented me with this:

He had literally swiped it off of his friend’s fridge!
Mr. Lemonade: Man what a great idea! She must be really creative! We’ve got to do this!
Me: Um…we’ve already decided on a design for the cards, and magnets really aren’t in the budget…
At this point he looks heartbroken and I feel like a tyrant.
Me: Well, perhaps we could incorporate the magnet idea…
I considered DIYing this project, but ended up going straight to Vista Print. They arrived in about 3 short days (I think we paid more in shipping and handling then we did for the magnets themselves).
Now, I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit disappointed at first. The top few looked a bit damaged and overall the quality just was lacking. However, they’re just magnets and they were created, shipped, and arrived in 3 days, so I just got over it. Also, I needed more than 50 but less than 100. However, they only sell multiples of 50, so I ordered 100 and was able to cherry pick the best ones (read: less damaged) to send to our guests.
All in all, I’m glad we decided to incorporate the magnets (thanks, Mr. Lemonade!).

Next up, putting it all together!
Have you begrudgingly given up some control in your wedding projects to find out it was well worth it in the end?
