The Big Day: Little Things

August 25th, 2008 @ 1:44 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

While Carlton was snapping our photos on the pier below the restaurant where our reception was being held, Aki was already upstairs taking pictures of the set up before the guests arrived. I really appreciated having these photos since I never got the see the whole set up before the wedding, and I was so curious to see what our guests would be seeing when they arrived.

We ended up going with five long tables, which really achieved that family-style feel while still giving us the space to have all the guests on the deck.

Ooh, forget the tables, check out the view!

There is the pier below.

There’s my last minute DIY table number project. If it hadn’t been super easy, I wouldn’t have done it ;)

Close up photo by Annie.

See the luggage tag place cards tucked into the napkins? This was the table with all the children, and they had goodie bags waiting for them on their chairs.

The goodie bags were a big hit.

Even with all that candy, I didn’t hear a peep from the kids’ table all night!

Here’s the crane escort tree.

Mmm, lychee martinis!

I think our cake toppers will turn into Christmas tree ornaments in the near future.

Here are a couple of shots taken by Miss Sweet Tea.

After searching high and low for that Swedish mailbox, Mama Gingerbread finally ordered the mailbox online and had it delivered to her (they didn’t deliver to Canada), and then brought it in her luggage for me. I can’t wait to use it as our mailbox after it served us so well as a card box. Also, please note the cute flower pens Auntie Gingerbread made for the guest book.

Escort card meet place card.

Coming up: Guests get into costume. Dinner is served. Toasts are made. The cake is a fake. Everybody dances.

Mrs GB!

I love how all your details turned out!

Is your cake really fake?

If so, where did you get it? I’m looking for a fake cake for my reception as well (b/c we are having a dessert buffet instead)

Thanks!

SB:)

The cake is really pretty. I love the table numbers. And what are those martinis? How do they differ from a regular martini?

@beelight13: Sorry, I didn’t do a very
good job linking to my previous posts.

Here’s some more info on the crane escort cards:

We had about 50 guests, but we did one crane per couple/family so that
the tree didn’t look too crazy. I bought a bunch of birch branches for
under $10 at Michael’s and stuck the branches in a vase filled with
coffee beans. It was a very inexpensive project.

The birds on the cake were especially made by a fantastic Etsy seller,
Strawberriesandcream:

@MrsDavis: The lychee martini was
1 oz Vodka
1 oz Lychee liqueur
1 oz of lychee juice
1 lychee nut

It was delicious!

Your cake including the cake toppers look amazing! We’re also doing an escort tree. Originally I was going to write the names out on leaves but that sounded like a huge headache waiting to happen. Then I was going to do cards but you inspired me to use the leaves I bought and attach the card underneath. Thanks for the inspiration and the idea! :)

Jodi says:

Oh, quick question…. what kind of string/ribbon did you use to hang your cranes and escort cards? It looks sort of invisible like fish lining.

Mrs. Gingerbread says:

@Jodi: Your leaves in an escort tree idea sounds awesome! Please do it and show me pictures :) I used thin wire that I found at Michael’s in the section with beads and jewelery supplies. Fish line would probably work too. I also bought a hole punch type thing in the shape of the card hanging from the crane.

@Mrs. Gingerbread:

Awesome! I will definitely be hitting up Michael’s in the near future! And I will be sure to share pictures. :)

@Jodi: I forgot to mention that I also bought a crimper and crimp beads, which let me do the loops and the top and bottom.

Wow! So beautiful. This is kind of weird to say, but I looooove the chairs!

Mrs. Gingerbread says:

@alexinwonderland: I love the chairs too! One of the things I really liked about our venue is that their decor as-is matched our taste so there was no need to compete with or hide what was already there. This really saved me a lot of work, not to mention $$$ :)
