Mrs. Martini, New Jersey Age and Occupation: 30, Telecom by day, Superhero by night Fiance's Age and Occupation: 32, Investments & Finance by day, Hip hop dancer by night Engagement Date: May 24, 2008 Wedding Date: March, 2009 Blogging Since: August 18, 2008 Venue: The Venetian About Me: Things that make me happy: Haribo Happy Cola gummies, TV shows on DVD, buying books although I never read them, 80’s rock ballads, ramen, and of course Mr. Martini! He is the calm, logical and number crunching finance guy. I can’t even multiply double digit numbers in my head and I am so indecisive that trying to choose between light green or slightly lighter green paper stresses me out (Wedding planning is going to be soooo much fun). We both find great joy in nabbing great seats at the movie theater for a blockbuster movie on opening weekend, and we are both absolutely crazy about snowboarding. And he loves to cook, I love to eat!

TV Show Proposal

August 25th, 2008 @ 2:15 pm by Mrs. Martini

One of my BM’s has been trying desperately to get me to watch the show “How I Met Your Mother” for a while. I don’t watch any TV at all, and only watch shows on DVD so I didn’t even know what that show was about, but she swore I would love it and made me swear to rent it. Two days ago she told me about a proposal story that occurred on the show and it made me tear up because I thought it was so original and romantic! I decided to try and look up the scene on YouTube this morning, and I found this CNN clip reporting the episode.

Apparently the show focuses on different types of relationships, including a newlywed couple hopelessly in love. Do you watch "How I Met Your Mother"? Is it worth the rent?

OMG Season 2, last 2 episodes are especially HILARIOUS! I bought it last year after Thanksgiving for $10 or $15 each. Tell your BM *SUIT UP* - she’ll get it.

Yes yes yes!!! Best show ever! It’s the new “Friends” about the lives of late 20/early 30 somethings. Great show!

Agreeing w/everyone - highly recommended! One of the best sitcoms on tv right now, I think. Sadly, it’s underrated (or underviewed, I guess - critics seem to like it, but the ratings aren’t terribly strong). Neil Patrick Harris is hilarious and I’ve been following Jason Segal around since his Freaks & Geeks days and just adore him in this.

P.S. If you have any amount of dislike for Alyson Hannigan, you may have to suck it up and try to overlook it as I did. I still don’t love her, but she rarely annoys me on the show because it’s so funny and well done. But if you really truly hate her it may not work out - she’s very…Alyson-y on the show. Some people love it, I can deal with it, but some people hate it.

i am so picky about tv, but i cannot say enough good things about ‘how i met your mother’!

a lot of tv shows feature young people in ‘new couples’ so i really relate to marshall and lily’s longterm relationship, haha.

and their wedding stuff is, truly- hilarious.

Wow, I never realized it was a real engagement on that episode. So adorable.
But back to your question: yes it’s worth watching, it’s quirky, fun, surprising and both my husband and I love watching and have for years. I always laugh.
It’s mainly the very long story of how Ted met his kid’s mother, but of course he starts the story waaaay back.
Give it a try and see how you like it.

LOVE HIMYM! NPH is hilarious and they break up the story archs nicely with fun, ridiculous episodes. I had no idea that proposal was real. How awesome would that be?!

I love this show! My FI and I watch it every week and we are eagerly awaiting the start of Season 4. The best thing about this show (besides NPH and his “Bro Code” - did you know there’s going to be a book about it?) is the wonderful non-linear narrative structure they use for most of their episodes. There are flashbacks, multiple interpretations of the same situation from different characters, pauses and stops (to explain what’s going on), different viewpoints, etc. Which all leads to a great viewing experience. It is SO much better than the traditional sitcom set-up of joke, misunderstanding, joke, joke, resolution.

It reminds me of another of my favorite comedies, Coupling (the UK version). Barney is like Jeff, Ted is like Steve, Lily and Marshall are like Sally and Patrick, and Robin is sort of Susan-esque.

For those who are wondering… HIMYM is on Mondays at 8pm on CBS.

Read Barney’s blog - http://www.cbs.com/primetime/how_i_met_your_mother/community/barney_blog/index.php

TOTALLY worth it!

Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog is also worth watching (iTunes) if you are a true NPH fan.

I haven’t watched in a while, but will have to start again as all the comments remind me of my favorite episodes. I definitely agree NPH is HILARIOUS as Barney! I actually really like Allison Hannigan’s character :)
