About Mrs. Sundae

Well Hellooooooo!

August 25th, 2008 @ 5:08 pm by Mrs. Sundae

My last post was exactly two weeks ago - yikes. I know I’ve got some explainin’ to do, but hopefully my little absentee situation will turn out to be words of wisdom to some of you! So, here it goes… get your violins ready…I am not sure I’ve mentioned this on the blog before, but I have asthma. I know there are a few other bees (and therefore I am sure a lot of you) who have it as well, so I know I am not alone. I’ve had it since I was really young, I actually can’t remember a time when I wasn’t toting an inhaler of some sort around with me.

What does this have to do with weddings, you ask? I’ve been MIA for the past two weeks because I had myself a big ’ol asthma attack. And I know exactly why it happened… someone got sick at work and because I was so run down with stress and over committing myself to things, it hit me hard. I was completely knocked on my butt and forced to think about nothing other than my health and getting myself well again.

And you know what? That’s probably the first time this year I’ve really put some thought into my own well being. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve truly loved planning our wedding. But I am definitely guilty of becoming so caught up in some of the details that I’ve neglected to pay attention to my body telling me to slow it down. I’ve been so focused on what needs to be done for the wedding, dealing with family conflicts, and still keeping up with daily life, that I definitely wasn’t getting enough sleep and really paying attention to my overall health… and I was absolutely given a wake-up call.

So, dear brides, in all of the wedding hoopla don’t forget to take some time out for yourself. Getting enough rest, exercise, and just generally listening to your body makes for a much more pleasant planning experience and for a happier you. ;)

Are you making sure to take care of yourself during the planning process? What kinds of things have worked for you?

Very, very important… Glad you’re feeling better! I think it’s some kind of cosmic requirement that all brides must get incredibly sick at least once within three months of their wedding… three weeks to go, and I’m taking LOTS of vitamins…specifically SystemWell’s “Ultimate Immunity” and crossing my fingers :)

Oh, poor thing! Glad to hear you’re feeling better now. And very good advice you gave- I too have the habit of getting sick due to running myself down… like clockwork after finals every year in college I would be laid out. I’ve gotten better in grad school… but not by much!

sucks to the ass-mar! I developed asthma a few years ago, and my first big attack, before I even realized that’s what my nightly coughing fits had been leading up to come one within an our of stepping off a plane without travel insurance (just plum forgot.) Luckily is it very under control in recent years, but I think understand well where you’re coming from.
