The Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicked off here in the Mile High City last night (that reminds me, I need to register to vote in Colorado)!
Both Mr. Cookie and myself work in Downtown Denver, and besides the intense security and minor traffic congestion, life is pretty much normal. Although, I am not going to lie. Mr. Cookie and I went to a Rockies game over the weekend and it was a little eerie to see the multitude of police with semi-automatics and guard dogs walking around downtown.
When planning for our wedding, Mr. Cookie and I made absolutely sure that we did not plan our wedding even close to the DNC. But I did talk to a bride at a Bee Happy Hour a little while ago who is having her wedding this weekend, and was having a heck of a time finding hotel rooms for her guests. With that, Mr. Cookie’s best man works as a Front Desk Manager in Downtown Minneapolis/St. Paul and is gearing-up for the Republic National Convention next week, and he says it’s crazy with members of media already arriving.
I have my last fitting tonight, and I am leaving an hour early from work because the bridal salon is close to the Pepsi Center. Finger crossed that I survive traffic!
Did or are you planning your wedding close to a major national event? What kind of challenges did you have to overcome?
Yes, we planned our wedding right around the time of the US Olympic Track and Field trials in our town in June. Luckily, we planned way ahead so we were able to get a big block of hotel rooms, and reserved our vendors, etc. without problems. We were also happy that the town had been spruced up for all of our OOT guests!
