Mr. Lemonade and I (okay, truth be told, it’s more like just I…) have gone back and forth on how many people to have in our bridal party. We (I) had a few people that were shoo-ins, those being my little sister, and our two mutual best friends (one of whom is responsible for us getting together that fateful night nine summers ago). I thought it would be really elegant to have the three of them stand up for us and be done with it. I mean, these are three of the most important people to us, and each of them has a significant role in our “coupledom”. Yet, we both (really both of us this time) kinda felt like we were missing out by not having a full blown bridal party. I mean, it would be pretty nice to have bridal babes to rely on, to plan my showers, and bachelorette party. The same goes for Mr. Lemonade and his respective bashes. Since we’ve been together for so long, we have a great mix of friends, most of them mutual.
Thus, after months of deliberation (all wedding decisions seem to take months of deliberation) we finally decided to ask a few other folks to join in on the fun. We both had a decent idea who we’d be asking and how. Mr. Lemonade needed only one more groomsman, so he decided to ask his step brother very informally (probably via Myspace or text message). I, on the other hand, put a little more effort into it.
I thought long and hard about the girls in my life and narrowed it down to two more—one long time best friend (that Mr. Lemonade actually introduced me to when we first started dating) and one newer friend who lives here in Austin and is simply fabulous.
Once the ladies were chosen, I started to get nervous… would they say yes? I now had a bit of an understanding of how Mr. Lemonade and all other grooms-to-be felt when they went down on that knee. I decided to stack the cards a little more in my favor and craft an adorable way to ask them that would be really hard to say “no” to.
I bought some cutesy cards at the Super Target (my FAVE!) for only $1 each! Woot!
I then headed on over to the Barnes & Noble and picked up these handbooks that will (hopefully) be informative and helpful (and again, pretty darn cute):

The Bridesmaid’s Handbook by Kathy Passero
Then, I got a little crafty. I whipped up a poem and typed it up in Word using the gorgeous Feel Script font and matched the ink to the cards, along with a book label personalizing each book for each girl.
I then printed a little label for the envelope (again, same font and color… I REALLY like consistency), Xyroned it, and slapped it on the envelope…
A little kraft paper to wrap it all up, and voila! All done!

Did you give your girls a little something when you asked them to be your bridesmaids?
