Sugar Shock

August 28th, 2008 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Lemonade

I love sugar. Seriously. I absolutely love it. There is rarely an evening that passes that I don’t ask Mr. Lemonade to take me out for ice cream (and he almost always obliges). Thus, wedding cake decisions are VERY important to us. And not just wedding cake. We plan on doing it up right for our guests that might happen to have a sweet tooth like I do.

At first, we figured we’d do the requisite candy buffet that is so popular right now. However, Mr. Lemonade really doesn’t like candy and it is his wedding as much as it is mine. What he does like is cheesecake.

How much fun would a cheesecake buffet be? I actually found a photo of one a while ago on the Knot (I think… if it’s yours, let me know and I’ll credit you or have it removed).

We really like this idea. And, I think that the club where we’re getting hitched can provide said cakes (thus, one less thing to coordinate and worry about). All we would have to do is decide on flavors and whip up some cute little signs. Sold.

The other super fun sweet treat we’re working on is another cake. Yes, another cake. This one will be served the night before the wedding as a fusion groom’s cake/birthday cake. You see, the day of the rehearsal happens to be Mr. Lemonade’s birthday! We can’t wait to throw a huge birthday bash/welcome dinner for all of our friends and family as a little warm up before the big bash!

Music is a huge part of Mr. Lemonade’s life—perhaps this guitar cake will be in order:

Although, it will be the end of basketball season, so maybe one of these cakes would be better:

But, I can’t forget his other great love:

Too many decisions… maybe we’ll have to get them all!

Will you have a groom’s cake? What will it be?

I LOVE the cheesecake idea!

My groom’s a major gamer, so I’m actually having the cake from his favorite video game reproduced. He has no idea. :]

I have a sweet tooth as well! I love the guitar cake and cheesecake buffet idea. Would you do that instead of a wedding cake? I think that is much more fun!

I’m excited about another area bride because Shiner will be flowing at the reception!

I think my boy is going to have a Lego cake…

Hey Miss Lemonade,
I just had a brilliant idea! Since you love candy as well. Perhaps along with the cheesecakes you can have options for toppings….ex Cherry topping, Reeses cups, peanut butter, Snickers, Raspberry, a can of whipped cream, nerds….Ok, maybe not nerds. But that way you both win!

Love the Shiner cake! We ordered 4 different kinds of Shiner to be served at our wedding — the beer distributor in Philly thought we were nuts. =)

My FI’s grooms cake is “a few of his favorite things” — cheezits, Jagerbombs, Pittsburgh Penguins, blond girls, Xbox. It was too hard to choose just 1 thing!

We are using the cheesecake buffet as our grooms cake. Since so many people like cheese cake we are getting four 8″ cheesecakes from the grocery store (Don’t know what kind but it’s the fiance’s favorite). We are going to stagger them on plates and then provide a topping buffet instead of providing different kinds of cheesecake. So we will have fruit toppings and chocolate toppings for guests to choose from.

I love the cheesecake buffet idea! My boy doesn’t have a real sweet tooth either, but cheesecake is his favorite thing ever.

I love the Spurs cake!!! Every cake shop I visited in SA had one on display. I tried to convince my guy to get it but he’s a hardcore Mavs fan like I’m a hardcore Spurs fan. I vetoed the Mavs cake early on so its only fair he vetoed the Spurs one haha.

Ooh - if I were a wedding guest - I’d be alll about the cheesecake buffet! Especially if there was a toppings area, much like a sundae station. Yuuuuum!

I am not a cheesecake fan, but I am ALWAYS in the minority. Your guests are going to LOVE it!!

Still up in the air about the groom’s cake, but it will either be an acoustic guitar (to reflect his love of bluegrass/the band we are having at the RD) or something skiing related to hint at his wedding day gift.

So glad I found this post! I had thought of surprising FI w/a cheesecake bar. He loves cheesecake, but we wanted to go w/a traditional wedding cake and no grooms cake. I was thinking of doing those mini cheesecakes (the more-or-less bitesized ones) w/a bunch of toppings. Since I don’t each cheesecake, I can’t really make good comparison so maybe y’all can help…are those things comparable to the real thing?

OMG, Shiner Bock brings back memories… I went to school in New Orleans, so Shiners and Abitas were the only beers we drank!

We both graduated from Texas A&M, so my husband had the most amazing bonfire cake (complete with flames and chocolate covered pretzel logs). He also toyed with the idea of an Astros baseball. Grooms cakes are so much fun!
