About Mrs. Lemonade

Color Me Blue

August 28th, 2008 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

When we first got engaged, I figured we had the color scheme thing in the bag. I mean, I have a very unique engagement ring that happens to have a colored main stone. Thus, we defaulted to a color scheme of aquamarine and platinum. Done and done.

Um, not so fast there! After about two days of research, we started to realize that what most companies and vendors call aquamarine or aqua is really more of the ever so popular Tiffany blue. Now, don’t get me wrong—I love me some Tiffany’s (my little sister and I collect their silver), but we really did not want to theme our wedding after a store, especially since the ring isn’t from there. In case you’re wondering, it was made by a guy named Yanni who shares my faith and lives in Brooklyn.

At this point, we really had no idea where to go next. Pink was out of the question—while I am a girly girl (one of THE girliest) I have a feeling Mr. Lemonade isn’t, and my love affair for all things pink passed a few years ago. We tossed around the idea of NO color for a while with the idea of a totally pure, all white and ivory palette. This too wasn’t doing it for us. We were stumped. That is, until I went to Neiman’s.

I totally heart Neiman’s! I mean, what’s not to love. There’s the designer shopping, the fact that it was founded in the great State of Texas, and there is a fantastic little bistro conveniently located in close proximity to lingerie! Well, I was getting a little retail therapy in the amazing shoe department, and there they were, the objects that would inspire all of our future wedding planning.

This. Is. Love. Seriously. The color—the picture here just doesn’t do it justice—it’s a deep, midnight navy blue. Sadly, these little guys have a VERY steep price tag (and would take up a hefty portion of our budget). Here’s to hoping the economy goes into an upswing! Anyhow, that’s how we came to our color palette of Navy and Ivory (with a splash of lighter blue and champagne gold for good measure).

What do you think?

I’ve found that a color palette with multiple colors (navy and ivory with light blue and champagne) is really the way to go — it adds depth to the decor and really brings the beautiful!

Great job Lemonade!

@Miss Hot Cocoa: Ditto! I can’t wait to see the ring too.
P.S. I actually bought a pair of knock-off in black @ White House/Black Market before I knew Louboutin made them - not that I would have been able to but them real to begin w/.

I have a love affair with shoes. As cliche as that is, I found the shoes I would walk down the aisle in just days after getting engaged and would find a dress to match later. I absolutely love that your color inspiration is from shoes (which I have been admiring just that paid on their website for many a weeks). Good luck!

Very pretty and close to the one I chose — we’re doing navy blue and cream, with a punch of poppy red (which makes those shoes oh TOO perfect for my scheme…*SIGH*!)…we’re softening it with some pale plues and pinks as well. I’m very excited to see this translate in our ceremony and reception spaces :)!

My colors! I also have a colored stone (champagne-yellow diamond) and used that to inspire our palate. I really wanted to get married at the actual Lake Tahoe, but that was not to be, so I brought the lake to me! We’re lake blue and champagne and it has been such a FUN palate to work with!

I knew there was a reason I adored you. (Besides the politics bit… I’m sitting here at work streaming C-span as we speak. What a geek!)

I’m doing various shades of blue, marine being the standout, with ivory and punches of ruby. So I say, go for the Louboutins!

@Miss Hot Cocoa: Mama Lemonade was partial to the white…she wasn’t feeling the blue at first! I think she’s coming round…

@Doctorgirl: You’re too sweet! The lake blue and champagne sounds beautiful!

@Miss Dumpling: Any chance you wear a 37 1/2 ? :)

I think it’s a gorgeous palatte! Ours was navy, light blue, pale yellow, and ivory, though, so I might be a little biased. :) It turned out beautifully!

I think that’s a wonderful palette. :) And if you need any ideas, you could check out my page, since those are my very colors. :) I used the ceiling of our reception hall as the inspiration.

Those are my wedding shoes (but in champagne)! I love them. They were out of my budget, too, but my dad bought them for me for law school graduation.
