Taking Flowers Off Their Hands

August 28th, 2008 @ 10:30 am by Mrs. Cherry Pie

Cherry Pie here, with another quick and easy project for you!

This time, the idea is to make life a little easier for your wedding party. They’ll probably be carrying around big bouquets of live flowers for most of the day and will want to set them down somewhere. Why not give them a special place to put their bouquets aside?

These mason jars will keep the bouquets upright, to prevent damage to the flowers, and will make it easy for the girls to find their own bouquets when they want them again. They can also keep the flowers alive longer if you put a little bit of water at the bottom of the jars.

I created the name tags by making a series of rectangles, typing my bridesmaids’ names inside the rectangles, and adding an embellishment to the end that would look like a hole-punch reinforcement. Then, I cut inside the lines of the rectangles and made a diagonal slice on each side to give the tags a “shipping tag” feel that matched our manila favor tags.

Then, I hole-punched the tags, looped jute twine (the same that was used for our photo line) through the holes, and tied the twine and tags around mason jars.

You can see all five of the jars for our bridesmaids laid out on packing material in the top photo above. These boxes have already been driven out east by my friend and coworker who is visiting family in North Dakota before our wedding. Bon Voyage, jars!

What are you doing to make life easier for your wedding party during your Big Day?

I love this idea. It’s a great way to get more mileage out of the flowers too. At the last wedding, all five ‘maids bouquets lined up the getaway aisle. Don’t forget to have a special spot for you own bouquet so it doesn’t get smooshed on it’s side somewhere.

Oh, yes. I love this - and have been looking for something like this! I’ve been trying to find vases that are the appropriate size for our bouquets - and mason jars might just do the trick!

Wow-these are awesome. What font did you use for the names? I love how they came out! I’m definitely stealing this idea. Thanks for posting these!

These look adorable and it’s an awesome idea! Thank you!
You also might want to put a few rocks in the bottom so the top heavy flowers don’t tip the jars!

Very sweet project. But how did you get the names to print onto the tags? I’m baffled.

This is the most brilliant idea ever! Who would have ever thought? The most I did was cover it up in Saran Wrap to bring it home and enjoy it for a few days before it shrivels up and dies..I bet it would work if I had to fly and bring it on the plane since it can seal tight…hmm…

@HappyAmy: The font is Edwardian Script ITC - which I don’t think is a free font, but you might be able to find it online somewhere (or maybe it’s on your computer already!)

@katie: I made the tags myself by printing onto cover stock paper and then cutting out a tag shape. It’s cheating but they came out great!

Love, love, LOVE your projects. Keep your tips and ideas coming. I’m going for the same ‘rustic’ look and feel. Your wedding is going to be beautiful!

Cute idea that ties in beautifully with your rustic theme! I love it!

I am also going to have vases for the BMs flowers, but I did not think of the name tag idea. I may steal it too;)

To make things earier for my BMs, we rented 15 passenger vans so that the BMs, GMs and their dates can travel together to all functions, and we are paying for their lodging (party cabins) so that we can all stay in the same place( Renting cabins is actually a lot cheaper than hotel rooms-especially at a YMCA camp!). On the wedding day, after we go to a high tea, we are going to get manis/pedis and the hair and maekup artists will come to us:) I hope it will be relaxing and fun (and am looking forward to watching “Sex and the City” at the nail salon on the projection screens with my fav gals while we prep).

Honestly, even the packing material looks beautiful! At first glance, I thought it was antique lace! Great photo. :)

Love the mason jars! Our florist includes vases for all of the boquets in her prices (I’d say they’re free, but we know better).
