Toothless Bride

August 28th, 2008 @ 5:35 pm by Mrs. Avocado

Update: Tooth fell out one hour ago, giving me the opportunity to show you the following. Not the look I am going for. My mom is coming home to glue it back in, but since it fell out while I was eating a corn tortilla with cheese melted on top, I have decided to stop eating until after the wedding day.

Please note that this is neither my dress nor my veil. At my mom’s house there are currently 5 wedding dresses and 2 veils, and I only own one of those things. It’s fun to play dress up sometimes.

I’m totally NOT laughing but yes. I’m laughing. THAT IS TERRIBLE! Could you have a dentist do a temp bridge or something?
You are awesome for showing us this :)

Oh dear! Good luck with getting it fixed! I have a fake tooth type thing too, but it’s attached to a steel rod that goes up into my gums and I think attaches to my jaw bone. (I was born without one of my permanent teeth.) The fake one has fallen out twice though–definitely a weird feeling when you bite down and realize there’s a hole in your mouth that wasn’t there a second ago! They may have finally fixed it–although I suppose you can never guarantee it, right?–since the last time they had to glue it back in was over 3 years ago. PS: love that picture! :)

This tops the ugly cry post of Mrs. Lovebug! Kudos to you for not being insecure about it! I personally think if it happened on your wedding day (not jinxing you), just embrace it! It will make for some fabulous pictures! It shows character! I like it! =)

Miss Avo!! I have to tell you two things:
First I have TWO, count ‘em, two fake teeth because I was born without them.. just the baby teeth and then no permanent ones grew in. (strange!) Second: I have lost one of my teeth many times over and have a picture similar to yours while on vacation in Italy. I too fear of losing my tooth on the wedding day and I would have never thought in a million years another bride would have the same problem. But don’t worry teeth are over-rated anyway :)

OH NO! Hopefully you can get it all fixed up properly soonest! My two front teeth are composed of a crown and a veneer - while I was waiting for the permanent ceramics, the termporaries fell out twice! I spent the rest of the waiting period (and a few weeks afterward) living on smoothies and yogurt!

I have a question for you: Were you sitting in the dress and veil while eating your food? Or did you change into that for the picture?

Kinda like that Friends episode when they are all sitting around in the wedding dresses!

You are amazing, Miss Avo. I love it! But I really hope you don’t have such a mishap on the day of. Although I’m sure you would handle it gracefully and would have an awesome post explaining the story!

@bugaboo: I would have cried if I had lost it in Italy/Poland! Oh what a terrible though!
@MD: Haha, you are like predicting my post set to go up this weekend :) I just grabbed the dress and veil out of the closet as soon as it happened. Everything is a photo opportunity with me.
@Miss Champagne: I am eating, although it is the best diet ever because I have to take bites very very slowly to keep from swallowing the tooth midchew. It means I actually get tired of eating before I ever get full :)

It just goes to show what a great personality you have- that one the first things you do after a tooth falls out soon before your wedding is grab a camera to document it! Too cute! I hope everything works out for you and your tooth.

Join the club!! When I was 7 I chipped my front tooth diagonally riding my scooter down the street. I had bonding (which looked obvious) for the longest time and then finally got a crown on the baby.
My fiance chipped BOTH of his front teeth playing basketball when he was in 8th grade. They are bonded until we can both save up enough money to get him crowns in a few years. When he was playing flag football last fall, the bonding was knocked right off. We drove to CVS, found dental wax and molded our own teeth and he went back in to play. ‘
My father chipped his front teeth when he was a child too, on the garage door.
It seems to be some sort of club. :)
Glad you can join and I know exactly how you feel.
And you are SO beautiful even toothless!!

I broke my two front top teeth when I was 10, and of course it was the permanent ones.
So I know about loosing teeth. I had to wait years, until my jaw stopped changing to get it properly fixed. Before that it was glue and a type of sap/resin teeth. I hated it. I hated loosing it, and I think my biggest fear besides loosing it was to swallow it.
Anway it’s now been fixed for 4 years and god am I happy about that.

My only advice if you can’t get it fixed the right way until the wedding: learn to eat from the sides. Don’t bite, cut and put the food straight to the side teeth, that’s about the only way to avoid being toothless.

Good luck.

And hey, in the worst case, there is always photoshop right? ;)

we freakin love you… I have a similar cap/ partial bridge situation and that is one of my major fears… mine too has fallen out a few times, YOU however, are braver than I. You’re actually still pretty damn HOT without that tooth! LOL>

[...] It’s a little bit freaky how much my dad looks like his dad in this picture, except he has all his teeth (Grandpa loves to pop his tooth out and scare us grandkids, which I guess explains where I got my tendency to go toothless from). [...]
