Product Review: Deeeeeeep Conditioner

August 29th, 2008 @ 11:27 am by Mrs. Lemonade

I like to have a little fun with my hair color. I’ve sported everything from the lightest platinum to a deep espresso. Currently I’m rocking my natural dark blond, but I’ve been adding more and more blond highlights. I love the baby blond strands but I totally hate how fried my hair can get.

I had been on the lookout for a new deep conditioner that would work wonders on my damaged tresses for a while, and I thought I’d tried pretty much all of them out there. Well, recently I was at the CVS picking up some allergy medicine (Yay, Texas!) when I was lured over to the hair care aisle by all of the pretty packaging. There, I noticed a line I hadn’t heard of before.

It was called Ellen Lavar Textures and after reading some of the ingredients, I found that it was chock full of good things like Brazil nut oil and a bunch of other stuff that sounded like it would moisturize pretty well. For $4.57 with my CVS card, I figured I would give it a try.

Well I am pleased to report that I totally love this stuff! It’s seriously taken the crunch factor down about three notches. I bought the 5 oz. tub yesterday…

Looks like I better stock up.

How are you getting your hair in shape for the wedding?

ugh… well lets start by saying I have been sporting a new hair color every 6 weeks or so for the past 11 years. Someone convinced me to do Black with peek-a-boo highlights, now I’m stuck with it!!! BAD BAD BAD hairdresser! so now I am trying to remove the color via madjulan(spelled wrong I’m sure) which is a dye stripper and color corrections. There’s no way I’ll get it back to my natural sandy blonde by then… In the process (no pun intended) I am killing my hair. I’ll be at CVS today, buying this product thanks to you! Pray for me… I need it!

I picked up this small tub from Target called Organics Hair Mayonaise. I’m loving it!
I have long, thick, very curly hair and my hair totally stucks this stuff up. I sometimes glob on a ton and do chores. After I rinse, my hair is totally soft, shiny, not frizzy and healthy looking.

I’ve always used Hair Cholesterol (I buy mine at Big Lots). Put it in, leave in for an hour or so, or for best results, blow dry the stuff into your hair. The heat helps it soak in. Day to day, I LOVE Redken’s “Smooth Down” or “All Soft-heavy cream.”

There are a couple of products I can’t live without - one is Warren-Tricomi close - basically it’s this stuff you put on between shampoo & conditioner (the three step process is referred to as cleanse, close, condition) Basically it closes the hair shaft so you don’t get all those little flyaways. It sounds a little strange, but it works for me - I can totally tell the difference in how soft my hair is on days when I use it vs. days when I don’t. And I also love the technician color 3 minute mask from Frederick Fekkai. It’s for people who color their hair - kinda an intensive treatment in just 3 minutes.
One of my favorite things about both products is they don’t take a lot of time - the close, you literally put it in and rinse it right back out - no need to leave it in your hair. And 3 minutes for a hair mask ain’t too shabby either. Both of them are a little more expensive, but I’ve noticed I don’t need to use as much either, so they last me a good long while.

Their shampoo always leaves my hair feeling stripped (like, TOOOOOO clean) and the conditioner is not rich enough for me. I like something a little thicker on my hair and I’ve found that Dove moisturizing conditioner works great!
