About Mrs. Sea Breeze

He shoots… They Score!

August 30th, 2008 @ 4:45 pm by Mrs. Sea Breeze

Growing up, I remember my parents dragging my family to the Sears portrait studio every couple of years to ensure our most awkward stages of childhood were captured on film for the everlasting delight of all who saw them (Can you say pouffy bangs and pink glasses? Um, yeah, that was me).

So it seems funny to me now that, despite having been together for 5 years, Mr. Breezy and I have never taken professional photographs together.

That was, until a very serendipitous day when we got in touch with James Day, photographer extraordinaire (no pun intended; well ok, maybe a little intended).

And here is where I insert a very meaningful wedding lesson—nay, a life lesson. Ready for it?

I almost didn’t email James because, well, who does that? But then I remembered my favorite quote of all time:

“You miss 100% of the shots you never take.”

(That’s a Wayne Gretzky quote and no, I’m not a hockey fan, sadly, but if you’re a fellow Canadian please don’t think any less of me.)

And I remembered—what have we got to lose?

So we took the shot. Or rather, James did. And we scored!

Our engagement photo shoot was so spontaneous and fun, and was one of the most romantic things we have ever done. James put us at ease instantly (even Mr. Breezy!) and, well, what can I say?

For once I’ll just shut up and let the photos do the talking.

All photos by James Day Photography. More on his blog.

Now… what to do with these photos? Make a book? Enlarge our favorite and frame it? Get some framed for our parents? Use them somehow at the wedding?

What did you do with your engagement photos?

They are lovely by the way. We are going to blow up our fav engagement photo and matte it so our guests can sign it at the wedding. How great to frame it and hang it with all the well wishes written on it!!!

Ahh I just love these photos Sea Breeze! You could do lots with them! We used ours for table numbers, put one in the program, and I also put a slideshow of them up on our wedding website. I’m sure your guests would love to see these beautiful pictures of you two!

So… tell me… where in the world did you find such a wonderful dress?

MSB,
I can’t thank you enough for your kind words. They have made my day. I am truly grateful to all my clients who I get to photograph for, it is my passion, my lifes work and something that I get enormous joy from. It’s actually therapy for me.
Also, I need to add - I am totally jealous of your wedding photographer!

James Day.

The “LOVE” one is adorable! I love the last one, too, because you can see your faces. So sweet. You’re a gorgeous couple! I’m planning to use our engagement photos for our guest book as someone else mentioned. I’m either going to scrapbook it or go the digital route and design it with MyPublisher. Sam’s Club, Shutterfly, and other photo sites all sell photo books that you design yourself with your own digital photos!

I’m so glad you posted these! You two are just stunning! I don’t know what we’re doing with our e-photos just yet- most likely will use as table numbers, and definitely will be making Blurb books for our parents!

Our photographer is going to mat ours and provides archival ink pens so we can have our guests sign the mat instead of a book. We’ll have it framed. I figure we’ll get a lot more use out of that than we would a guest book, which we may or may not ever actually look at again. It will be a constant reminder of the love and support of our families & friends on our wedding day!

I am sending mine out with my invitations. After that, I will probably just look at them all the time and be happy. I love yours enough that I would almost frame one of them for my own house :)

Your pics are great!

We’re using ours for our STD’s, in our slideshow, one framed one at the wedding and hopefully a few other places! And to show your future kids how hot their parents were! :)

These are all such fantastic ideas, thanks guys!

@RachelD: Aw. thanks! Oh and the dress is from a store here in Vancouver called Plum.

@James Day: And I am equally jealous of all the couples who get you for their wedding day! Thanks again for being so spectacular.

@katie & matt: Ooh Katie, I LOVE your guys’ stuff! You two are so talented. It’s true what they say, birds of a feather do flock together. You will have so much fun on your shoot with James… can’t wait to see!

I love these photos! I’m so jealous that he doesn’t actually live/work in Vancouver as I’d love to have James as our photographer too! May I ask you, Miss Sea Breeze, where that shot in front of the LOVE sign is in Vancouver? I’m trying to think of good places to go for an engagement photo session.

So gorgeous. You guys pulled off the adorable poses so effortlessly! Mr. CC and I had our engagement shoot today and I found it so hard not to make goofy faces and ramble the whole time haha. Those first two photos are my favorites :) I’m so glad to see these on here!

@psychoexgirlfriend: Well, he does do quite a bit of traveling so you never know!

The LOVE sculpture is at 1145 W Georgia, between Broughton & Nicola. The other cool place would be the Engagement Rings, I think it’s at English Bay… you know, these: http://tinyurl.com/5goadq

@Miss Candy Corn: We totally WERE goofy, and that was why we had so much fun! :-P Can’t wait to see yours!
