My Disturbing Wedding Countdown

August 30th, 2008 @ 11:01 am by Mrs. Candy Corn

As the wedding date gets closer and closer, most couples have fun watching their countdowns tick down to the double, then single digits.

Some people use countdowns on sites like Facebook:

Me? I have a unique approach to counting down the days…

Folks, after this weekend I will be just ONE menstrual cycle away from the wedding! How thrilling is that?! Only one more week of cramping and bloatedness as a single lady!

Please tell me there are other brides-to-be out there who have thoughts like these. When I told Mr. CC that I’m almost one period away from marriage, he just shook his head and gave me a “Honey, you’re so special” look.

I know I should join the norm and tick the days off on a calendar, but I can’t help but think things like, “We’re only six more Project Runways away from the wedding!” or “I bet I’ll still be using this stick of deodorant by the time our wedding day creeps up!” All of my thoughts are consumed by wedding excitement. I can’t help it!

And yes, now you all know my menstrual schedule and can join in wishing me a happy period on a monthly basis.

How are you and your significant other counting down the days?

We have a tub of ricotta cheese in our fridge that expires the same day as our wedding! I pointed it out to my fiance the other day, in a “how sweet is this???” kind of way but i guess he wasn’t quite as excited by the thought!

@NatiSylv:

I’m excited for you, on behalf of him. I bought milk last week because the date on it was Aug 8.

Hoolie says:

Wow. I honestly thought I was the only one. My “monthly” sure lets me know when it’s here, so I base everything on it. I change my monthly contact lenses, color my hair, etc. In fact I said the same thing to my fiance about our wedding being only one period away and he mentioned that the cookie dough in our fridge expires on our wedding day. Apparently, when I mention my period he thinks of cookie dough. That’s why I’m marrying him. :)

Ha ha! I read this to my FH and he got this weird look on his face so I said, What? It’s funny!
He replied, Actually I think it’s comforting.
What? That we’re not the only ones like that?
Uh Huh.
You’re definitely not alone.

Katharine says:

Haha, you’re awesome, Miss Candy Corn! Though I do the traditional countdown stuff, I also think like that!

Maude says:

Hilarious!! And not weird at all - I know exactly what you mean.

Glitter650 says:

I totally keep thinking to myself if I hear things are happening on a date after the wedding… “oh I”l be married by then” or “that’s after the wedding”

now we’re less than one month (!) out, the this is the last x before the wedding realizations are coming fast and furious. so comforting to know i’m not alone!

December says:

Heh, I do the expiration date countdown — things like jars of mustard are already past the wedding date, and I’ll work my way up through more perishable foods until finally we’re within the milk stage. :) I haven’t told FI about it yet — pretty sure he would roll his eyes at me. :)

yes…yes.

i’ve had those thoughts….like…only 60 more days that i’ll brush my teeth as a single lady. or, only one more set of contacts until the wedding.

yeah….i’m wierd.

i’ve got 2 more periods to go. the 3rd one will be the week after our honeymoon…..which means pms *during* the honeymoon….whose idea was that?

we have a countdown through theknot, as well as on our website. but your post made me sit down in front of a calendar. I sat there and marked my 28 day period cycle only to find out that on our wedding day is the very first day of my period! HELP! I know tmi, but it’s very heavy. Anyone ready with suggestions on coping with it?

Kaleigh says:

Rofl omg- I thought the EXACT same thing to myself last night as I popped my pill- only in regards to the love of my life getting home from deployment! I looked at the pack and thought- omg! Only one more pack til he’s home! lol

I was looking at your calendar and noticed that I were you, I would be bloated and bitchy cause my wedding date is the 23 of Sept. Not to mention the next day,”aunt flow” would be a visitin’…
But because I’m me, I’m very safe. I will not have ‘it’ until we get back from our wedding/honeymoon….Yahoo!!!!
(although, I will be PMSing…..crap…do ya ever win!!!! ahhahahah

At least when you go on your honeymoon (assuming it is right after the wedding) you will have passed your most fertile days. LOL

Congrats on only having one to go!

pailoflove- there have been a lot of posts on that subject on the blog and on the boards, do a search, I’m sure you’ll find lots of advice :) Good luck!

hahaha… I love that you use “special” the way one of my friends does. I remember her telling me about slang and catchphrases catching between coworkers, and I asked if she had her coworkers using “special” and she said she tried very hard not to be “special” at work.

Shasha says:

Oh man Miss CC, THAT’S hilarious!

I got doctors orders to use NuvaRing non-stop (cause I get HORRIBLE get migraines on the “out” week). I was happy, happy cause Aunt Flo woulda come to town on the honeymoon and now doc says she won’t be coming any more.

*happy dancing!*

solodlc says:

Haha! I’ve been tracking my period to make sure it wouldn’t be during our honeymoon and I have recently thought the same thing (our wedding is Oct. 11th!).

Jodi says:

I have a big dry erase board in my cubicle and I’ve been counting down on that. I also have a countdown timer on my Myspace and my Live Journal user info page. :)

For all you brides and grooms with iPhones or iPod Touch there is a great new App called WEDDING DAY. The application counts the years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and even seconds until you say “iDO!” WEDDING DAY app continues to work even after you say your vows, by tracking how long you have been married. Down to the second! Check it out on the iTunes App Store.
