Time to Get Beautified

September 2nd, 2008 @ 3:25 pm by Mrs. Espresso

A few days ago, I had my first make-up trial for the wedding. Now my bridesmaid/make-up artist/amazing friend Kristie told me forever ago to start saving examples of what I wanted. So… I tore out two pictures from a magazine before she got to my house and showed her those. I even had trouble finding them once she arrived. Scatterbrained has definitely become one of my major characteristics in the last few months. :) Thank goodness she’s a great friend and didn’t care. Instead she asked me what I liked about the photos I picked, and they all came around to the same qualities: I wanted something soft, simple, and romantic.

Like these two ladies here:

So Kristie thumbed through a few more magazines to get some ideas…

Opened up her Mary Poppins bag full of fun makeup…

And made me wash my face.

WARNING: This is my face without make-up and illuminated by a very bright flash… forget immediately.

And here I am afterwards:

soft, simple, and romantic (and without that dang bright flash!)

The process was definitely fun and I learned so much - like doing your eye make-up first before your foundation/powder helps eliminate dark circles. Did anybody else already know that or am I the only tomboy in the mix?

Kristie took this picture to show me the difference between the eyebrow she had already done and the one she had yet to work on. Mine tend to go every which way so I loved getting some tips.

And a closer look

Almost everything she used on my face was MAC since she’s a manager for one. Look at all these fun tools! The only things that were mine were : Avon Moisturizer, eyebrow pencil, lipstick, gloss and Maybelline mascara.

We’re going to have 1 more trial to try out individual false lashes, but other than that, most everything else will stay the same.

What are you doing different for your wedding day make-up?

You are so pretty! Love the dimples.

The ONLY thing I would say is to add a little more color to your lips–you almost lose them in the pic where you’re farther away.

Other than that, flawless, girlie! can’t wait to see your wedding photos!

You look gorg w/ or w/o makeup!!

V says:

I gotta be honest…your lips are too ‘cool’…as in temperature/color tone.

They totally wash you out. Try warmer colors. A pink with brown pigment, etc.

Your eyes and eyebrows are great tho.

@rebecca: She used my Avon light brown brow pencil with Mac shadow. If you want I can ask her what colors they were.
@christine: Thanks for the tip. I’ll try out some other colors when I do my next trial
@Miss Dumpling: ya Beatles! Good eye Miss Dumpling!
@Miss Sweet Tea: I thought she just used regular eyeshadow but now I’m going to have to ask her
@Shasha:you are way too sweet… thanks for making me feel better about my reveal all photo :)

My mother always told me (much to my chagrin) that in pictures I need to wear more blush. When I think I have too much on, apparently I don’t. And gosh darn it if she isn’t right all the damned time. In your case…I think you need a lil’ more blush too. I am a fair-skinned as well and find that a coral pink does the trick. In pics, your makeup should be heavier even if you feel like you have too much on. I agree with one of the previous posters about the lip color washes you out. I can’t wait to see the next trial with the eyelashes. That is GLAM!

Karen says:

I agree with V. Your eyes and brows look great, but I think your lips are too light. For wedding pictures, you want the color to look (to the naked eye) too dark/heavy because the flash on the photographer’s cameras will wash you out otherwise.

You are absolutely stunning! I know you’ve taken it on board already, but just wanted to chime in for some more lips to perfect the look.

But really, with a face and smile like that, you can’t go wrong!
