A Wedding Planning Hiatus

September 2nd, 2008 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Pinot Noir

Some of you may have noticed that I have been a bit absent on the blog lately. Well, I started a new job last week (yippie!) but the stress of a new job coupled with all the wedding planning has really been getting to me. Mr. PN and I have been bickering about the smallest of issues—like who left a light on—and it has been exhausting and draining. To be honest, there have been days that I have just wished for the wedding to be over and for life to return to normal again.

So instead of using the long weekend to accomplish many wedding projects, we took a wedding planning hiatus! We left town and more or less ignored the wedding for the weekend.

We spent Sunday picnicking and biking on Block Island in Rhode Island. The weather was perfect and the day was just what we needed. Over the course of the day we biked the entire island, had a picnic, walked through a Labyrinth, and had a great seafood dinner.

It was the most beautiful day and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. My only wedding related thoughts throughout the day occurred while I meditated during my walk in the labyrinth. I watched Mr. PN speed along on his bike, and all I could think about was how excited I was to be marrying this man. I looked forward to spending the rest of our lives together. It really brought everything back into perspective. We returned from this weekend with more patience and excitement for our wedding and for the many years to come.

Have you or your partner need a planning hiatus? What did you do?

We are taking a “minimoon” three weeks before our wedding. We’re going to a small Canadian island - with no cell phone reception!! - where we’re going to totally de-stress. We have some wedding tasks to accomplish - finalizing our music playlist, writing our vows - but I’m hoping it will be a super relaxing week for us…
