Obligatory License Pic

September 3rd, 2008 @ 5:01 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

We did it! Yesterday morning, bright and early, Mr. H and I set off to get our marriage license! In Texas, it doesn’t matter which county you receive your license in so long as you get married in the state of Texas. We are getting married in Dallas county but, to avoid any long lines or a wait, we went to the county clerk’s office in our hometown (outside of Dallas county). We got there at about 8:15 a.m. and by 8:35 a.m. we were out of there!

Twenty minutes and $72 later, we were posing for a pic by the county seal.

As a funny side note, Mr. H’s dad has to go to the county clerk’s office quite a bit for his work. The women in the office are familiar with him, as they have seen him almost daily for over ten years. When he went in yesterday, they were excited to tell him that they had seen his son and helped him with his marriage license. Mr. H’s dad played dumb and acted like he had no clue that Mr. H was applying to get married and acted shocked and mad. He totally had them going, but finally fessed up in the end. :)

With only three weeks to go, I still kinda feel like it isn’t happening. After such a long engagement I’ve become accustomed to thinking that we have months to go until the big day. I know it’s going to hit any day now as more and more wedding tasks are unloaded onto my plate.

How long did it take you to finally “realize” that the wedding was right around the corner?

you are so lucky to have had such a nice experience with the most bureaucratic part of getting married! We had to make an appointment at the County Clerks office in San Diego and they still made us wait half an hour. My wedding is next weekend, I’ve handed off all of everything to my coordinator and am feeling good!

I don’t think I’d seen a pic of Mr. H before, you two are such a cute couple :)
and I love the Story of FFIL H fibbing about the license, too funny and sounds like something my dad would do.

It hit me SO late. When I told everyone “line up, this is it” right before we walked down the aisle, I just stopped dead and tears sprang out of nowhere as I realied this really was the moment and everyone I know and love was waiting for me. My Dad was all worried when he saw me tearing up! LOL Until then, it all seemed surreal….but it was such a great day. Even if I did end up with snot dripping from my nose at the alter! Thank heavens I made him carry a hanky!

@krys: There are actually new laws regarding marriage licenses that began on September 1. That is why we ended up paying so much. I recommend you calling your county clerk’s office or visit http://www.anthemnorthtexas.org/ for more info!

It literally it me right before i went out to be presented by my dad. I was in the room where I got dressed. I was alone in the room and I was literally hyperventilating just because it all hit me at once (plus it was taking forever to start). Then when my dad took me and gave me a whole speech that I’m sure he thought about 22 years to give me as we walked to the aisle. He was talking to me all the way down to main area and I was like omg this is it. BEST feeling ever :-)
