I’ll Give You the Good News First

I found the most comfortable shoes, AND they’re cute! After searching and scouring every department store, shoe store, and specialty shop I’ve found a pair of heels that a. don’t squeeze my toes and b. fit our color theme perfectly!

One rainy Wednesday I ventured to the local Saks where I thought I would spend a gift certificate given to me long ago. I made my way to the make-up counter and picked out a few basics. Now I normally just breeze through the shoe section to get some ideas, but this time was different… there they were… the.perfect.shoes.

I introduce you to my lovahs: Guiseppe Zanotti peep toes in what else? Champagne!

Stock photo in gray (couldn’t find the champagne color) AND my shoes have a much lower heel but it’s the same style:

Are you ready for the bad news? They don’t fit. I’m sliding forward and my heels won’t stay in the shoe. For once, the shoes are wide enough and fit my pinned up toes, but the shoe literally just doesn’t stay on my foot!

I’ve used foot petals before, and they do seem to help. Plus, they come in fun colors and prints, and I’d love a hidden little zebra print under my toes!

The foot petals website has a section called Tina’s tips on how to deal with common heel problems, and another option suggested are the Heavenly Heelz. They’re specifically designed to prevent heels from slipping out of the shoe, so one would think these would be ideal for my situation. I tried them and had to keep stacking them up to prevent slippage.

One less mainstream solution is to tape the inside of the heel with tape that won’t be harmful to skin. I’ve heard of toupee tape used for this purpose, but I just don’t think it’ll do the job for the entire day.

My conclusion is that the shoes are just too big, and the smaller size isn’t going to be as comfortable. Just when I thought something was going right, reality hits. It’s just not worth the money for me to buy these shoes if I’m going to have to manipulate them so much to be suitable for wear. I guess my dream shoes aren’t so dreamy after all. :(

Any ideas? How do you prevent your feet from slipping out of your heels?

Peep toes are hard too. If they don’t fit well the toe ends up looking funny too. Good luck on your shoe hunt.

I was so afraid of slipping out of my shoes that I found a really pretty (and thin) ribbon to literally tie the shoes on. It actually looked very pretty! Our photographer took some cute pictures of my sister tieing the ribbon. Please let me know if you’d like to see a pic!

Good luck finding the right pair!!

That really is a bummer! I feel for you. With wide, size 6 feet I have the hardest time finding shoes that fit! Did you know that almost all companies start thier wide widths at size 7.5? This leaves those of us with short stubby feet out in the cold! This doesn’t even take into the fact that most companies don’t even carry wides to begin with!

I wish you luck in finding your dream shoes.

Did you actually try the smaller size to see if they are less comfortable? This one definitely looks like the length of the soles are too long for your feet. I’ve used those heel inserts before and they work for me but there’s never that much space between my heel and the actual back of the shoe.

Try some thick moleskin - you can get it at the drug store. It feels like felt but has a sticky side that you can stick into the shoe to take up some space….

i have the same problem with my shoes, because i bought them online.. they’re just big and my feet kept sliding forward, because of the 4″ heels..
i bought the party feet gel.. http://www.expresschemist.co.uk/pics/products/9155/2/partyfeet_1.jpg
and heel grip.. they seem to work for me :)

for the smaller size, is it just the width of the toe part that is uncomfortable? if so, you can take them to a shoe cobbler & have them stretch it out! i have wide feet & this works for me & doesn’t hurt the shoe. If it just needs lil stretch, i just have nordstrom’s stretch em right there while i wait. good luck!

Oh those Zanottis are gorgeous! Did I ever show you the purple Zanottis I had my eye on? Barneys totally ran out of them in my size though. As for making these fit, if your dress is going to cover them for much of the day, you can try the clear elastic bands that ballroom dancers use. They just loop over your foot (creating a near invisible strap for your shoes). But they are somewhat visible and might ruin the “look” of the shoes.

Me says:

ooooh, make sure they do fit.

as a photographer I’ve seen pictures where you can TOTALLY tell the shoes are either too small or too big.

Some brides have cried after seeing the unappealing result of the famous shot with only the shoes.

I must agree, is not pretty when you catch it on film.

Good luck.

depending on how much you love them, could you look into taking them to a cobbler to fix? it would be an added expense, but if it is for a pair of special shoes you really love, it might be worth it.

Those shoes are beautiful - if they were a peacock teal, I would be in heaven.

Dr. Scholl’s makes a heel saver that I’ve used to great effect - my feet are wide but short, so I constantly have to deal with the slipping off problem.

Here’s the product on Amazon:

But I got mine at Duane Reade or Rite Aid.

Good Luck!

I love this post. Everyone needs a little advice in what works best when it comes to shoes that are too big or too small. I love those shoes. I hope you find something that works, because the shoes really are fabulous!

I don’t know if they sell donald pliner shoes in your area… but his shoes are known for comfort! But you do sacrifice the look of guiseppe’s shoes! I love his shoes! I have a remedy for blisters if that’s any consolation. I hope you find “the one!”

I am also wearing zanotti’s and I LOVE them, including the fit! (I am wearing the higher heeled, black ones you showed, but in light pink). I think maybe try taking them to a zanotti boutique store and see if they can help you out… when I bought mine on sale in vegas they mentioned that if anything goes wrong with them, at ANY time I can take it to the boutique closer to me to get them fixed. Maybe they can also help with fit problems?

Miss Champagne says:

@Linda: I did have some luck! I ordered a smaller size from Saks and I think it’ll work! So the shoes were a bit over my budget($695), but with the cheaper than expected price of my dress, they’ll even out everything!
