Dress Shopping with Miss Dumpling, Part 2

September 3rd, 2008 @ 2:34 pm by Mrs. Dumpling

Part 1

I have to say, trying on wedding dresses is the most fun thing ever! I was one of those brides that would try on any dress that the consultant suggested. I felt that she knew best and had seen what looks good and what looks bad on most body types, so I completely trusted her. I can’t say that she got it right every time, but at least we had fun.

This one is from Anne Barge, one of my favorite designers. I like it, but I’m not sure if I can rock the deep V-neck… without… ahem… help in the cleavage area.

From Anne Barge Le Fleur Fall 2007

This is from Alvina Valenta Fall 2007. I love dresses with sleeves, and I thought this was so vintage-looking. But as you can tell by my no-teeth-showing-smile, I didn’t feel like it was the one.

Now we’re starting to have fun! Does anyone know who makes this dress? I liked the beading and the fitted top, and while I wasn’t sure at first how the pick-up bottom would look on me, I ended up really liking it.

I think my consultant started to get a feel for what I liked. The next one she brought out was also from Alvina Valenta. I think I might have a little designer crush! I saw this dress on the rack and wasn’t sure if I liked it, but in the dressing room I saw another bride trying it on and it looked stunning on her. I really hope she ended up buying this dress, because she looked like she could be on the cover of a magazine. After she left, I tried it on and immediately fell in love.

From Alvina Valenta Fall 2007

See the teeth-showing smile? Me likey!

I should have just stopped there, but there was still one more in the dressing room waiting to be tried on. The consultant asked if I would try it, for her, because she had never seen it on anyone before. I’m so glad I listened to her! So, what dress did I pick? Stay tuned, hive!

I think dress shopping has been my favorite part of the wedding process so far. I’m really not a shopper, so I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy myself. I was a little nervous at first, you know- walking out of the dressing room and having complete strangers give you their input. But I decided, for once, not to worry about what other people thought. :)

When you went dress shopping, did you have a certain dress in mind, or were you open to whatever the consultant suggested?

I just went and tried on dresses last night and also fell in LOVE with Alvina Valenta! I am pretty sure I found “the one” … but it is a combination of three different Alvina dresses! The woman at the shop said she knows the designer personally and that she could totally customize it for me! I am so excited! But I … like you … have to go to at least one more shop before I make my final decisions!!

Seeee, that is exactly what happend last time.

The lady saw the gorgeous mermaid silloutte on you and she figured the dress was ‘the’ dress her daughter should try and made the ‘wide’ comments for you to take it off ASAP.

unforch, it worked to her advantage.

my point, this mermaid/trumpet thing looks amazing on you. Happy dress shopping.

Oh - wow - I can’t wait to see the dress you picked!!

I really was open to anything - I had all my BMs pick out a dress for me and I tried them all on. They talked me out of a dress that I had originally thought I’d go with and I’m so glad they steered me in the right direction.

I tried on a zillion dresses at Vows/Bridepower. It was awesome, albeit exhausting. The last Valenta is stunning on you — I can’t wait to see what you picked!

You look fabulous in these dresses — cannot WAIT to see the one.

My bridal consultant was an absolute dear — she actually had started work at my Macy’s salon recently so she wasn’t as pushy as I envisioned my consultant to be. She definitely steered me towards some styles that I would have never given a second glance at and surprise! I actually really loved them. So yay for great bridal consultants!

I bought and Allure dress and absolutely love it. I tried on about a million dresses BEFORE that too! My mom and I just grabbed armloads of dresses, no consultant needed, eevn though she was able and willing!

I still (from my last comment from part 1) think you should go to Celebrations Bridal on Jones and Desert Inn in Las Vegas! That’s where I got my dress. It was SUCH an awesome experience!

@nikki: Thanks! I will check that out! I have a friend who is gettting married and is searching for gowns.
@violarulz:OOhh! I hope you get it!
@Miss Hot Cocoa: I really wanted to go to Bridepower/VOWS but I dont live in that area. They had a Carolina Herrera gown that I loved and tried on in the fancy store here, but by the time I went to inquire about it, it was gone. =(
