About Mrs. Lemonade

As I mentioned earlier, we (more like I) lamented about whom to ask to be in our bridal party. When we finally decided to go the traditional route, I knew I had to ask one of my oldest and dearest friends to stand up for me.

C is actually one of Mr. Lemonade’s oldest friends. They met in prep school when they were in 9th grade and continued to remain in the same circle of friends after high school. As soon as Mr. Lemonade and I started dating, he introduced us and we quickly became the best of friends. Even though we ended up at different universities, we remained superduperclose and were like peas and carrots anytime we got together. We went through some crazy stuff together (who didn’t at 21?!) and somehow drifted apart a few years ago when I moved to Austin and she toured the world.

Fast forward to shortly after our engagement, when Mr. Lemonade and I started discussing the bridal party issue. C was the first person to come up, and Mr. Lemonade agreed that she should totally be there, standing up for us, as she’s been such a big part of both of our lives for so long.

Well, I asked her, and she said yes! I was super stoked about the thought of the two of us back together again roaming around town, causing mischief, and perfecting a wedding along the way. The exuberance didn’t last long, as almost as quickly as she accepted, she disappeared again and was really hard to reach. I was concerned—did I do something wrong? Did I come on too strong?

About a week later, I heard from her on a Tuesday. She dropped the bomb that she was leaving that Thursday for her next big adventure. She was going to be cruising the Caribbean for six months. Yeah, you read that right; she’s going to be in the middle of the ocean with very little ability to communicate with the outside world until February of next year. Now, I really hate the word ‘Bridezilla’ and what that word implies. That being said, if ever I had a Bridezilla-esque moment, it was when I got off the phone with her that afternoon. I was not a happy camper. Let’s just leave it at that.

Despite the drama, everything’s totally peachy now. I’ll be working with her mom on getting her bridesmaid dress to her and there’s actually a tailor on board the ship, so alterations shouldn’t be an issue. I’ve been assured that she will be back on terra firma by mid February, which is perfect timing for the showers and bachelorette party. So, all in all, there was no harm done! I can’t wait to see her awesome tan when she gets back!

In choosing bridesmaids, C and my sister were pretty much no brainers. But deciding on a third was pretty hard work. Looking back now, choosing L was one of the best wedding decisions I’ve made yet!

L is yet another lady that I met via Mr. Lemonade (he certainly has fantastic taste in females if I do say so myself). They used to work together in advertising and one of their colleagues invited them both to play on a competitive kickball team (yes, you read that right). The team needed more girls to satisfy the rules so I happily obliged (it feels good to be such an instrumental part of the team). Since neither of us is really the athletic type, L and I spent many a Thursday evening drinking beer and being snarky from the sidelines. It was awesome!

City Champs 3 years in a row! Jealous?!

We retired from kickball sometime ago, but remained friends and have had some super fun adventures together since then that include the lake house party of the century, awesome 80’s birthday karaoke, and a Vegas trip I have no recollection of whatsoever. However, one of the most fun to date was our first dress shopping experience. I received a postcard in the mail inviting me to a “Bridesmaids’ Bash” at a local bridal store. The invite tempted me with promises of yummy cake, mini manicures, and amazing gift bags. I called up L and one of our other friends, M, to join me for some of this awesome free bridal goodness. We all met up at my place and indulged in a little alcoholic pre-gaming (thank goodness we did…) before heading out to what ended up being a TOTAL bust. The cake was yucky, the gift bags incredibly lame, and the mini manicures were nowhere to be found (false advertising, I tell ya!) We made the best of it by taking part in our own little fashion show. I present you with my second choice for my maids’ attire, what we like to call the Barbie:

Can you see why L cracks me up on a regular basis?! I can’t wait to have her and my other 3 ladies cheering me on from the sidelines on W day!

On a side note, I’d like to congratulate L and B on their brand new engagement! Cheers!

Do you have any bridesmaids or groomsmen that are close friends of both you and your FI?

I haven’t asked her yet but, one of my bridesmaids is my FI’s youngest brother’s girlfriend. She and Youngest BIL (I think he is 13 years younger than FI) have been dating about 2 years longer than FI and we totally hit it off. We have such a good time together and she is one of the nicest, sweetest, people I have ever met.

Just my Junior BM. It’s Mr. Dumpling’s 12 year old cousin, and my shadow/mini-me whenever we’re visiting.
