I was so inspired by the choices I had compiled in my last post on wedding bands, I decided to look into getting one of them made to see if it was within our budget. The ring I was interested in was almost perfect - but it was cast in sterling silver and a smidge too wide for my finger. Basically, I wanted a narrower, smoother, more clean-cut version of the below:

Double Band Empty Spaces Ring
$220 @ Sundance Catalog
I loved that the two sides didn’t quite meet in the middle - but that if you took the long route along the path of the band, it was still met back at the beginning. To me, this symbolizes that while a circle is still a great symbol for marriage, it is still hard work. It’s a great reminder to keep on my path of solid marriage when things get tough - and to not take the easy route out.
After a co-worker raved over a local jeweler, I headed in to their shop with Mr. Pomegranate to get a quote and order his simple titanium band. No matter how much I tried to convince him, he was not interested in a “frou-frou” design and wanted something simple and manly. After checking out the shop and reviewing the Men’s Wedding Band book, we sat down to discuss the design of my wedding band.

Just some of the many custom rings Daniel and his wife have designed.

I had to sneak a photo of this cool plaque that describes the different types of pearls and their colors.
Our jeweler Daniel helped us figure out how to make the design more “me” and set an appointment where we could return to take a peek at the wax sample. I have to admit, the first wax sample was far from what I was interested in, but the second sample he created was almost perfect!

The first wax is in green on the right and the final wax is in red on the left.
A look at how my ring matches up with the wedding band wax - almost perfect.
A shot of the side - they don’t match perfectly, but I can always have my e-ring re-set.
I’m so excited to see the final product! In a couple more weeks, Daniel will have the white gold version ready for me to try on. As it will be finished a mere four days before our wedding, I’m quite anxious.
Did you have your wedding bands custom designed?
I’m far from getting my wedding band (tear), but it’s going to have to be custom. We went to a small, local jeweler who makes custom, only-made-once pieces. it’s got a really antique feel and no band is going to line up with it - BUT, that was part of its appeal to me! I want to design my own ring… so exciting!
PS: I love your ring. It’s beautiful, and I love that it’s so different!
