The Fate of the Programs

September 5th, 2008 @ 3:15 pm by Mrs. Cream Puff

As you may recall, I was about a quarter of the way through our programs when I accidentally jammed my sewing machine and production STOPPED. You may also recall that our solution to this problem was to have a cobbler sew the rest of them, but that they were sewn with the wrong color of thread, prompting my major wedding meltdown (even though it really wasn’t that big of a deal).

Well, my friends, I realized this morning that I never showed you the final product! So here they are! This is a programs as they were supposed to be: zig-zag stitch with black thread:

and the inside:

These are the front of the ones done by the cobbler. I knew they would be a straight stitch, but I had asked for black thread. As it turned out, he sewed them with shoe-colored thread. Light brown on the front and dark brown on the back.

Here’s a close-up of the front of the program. Hopefully you can see the grooves/indentations left by the industrial-strength shoe-shop sewing machine:

We knew that was going to happen, and decided that we didn’t care. No one even noticed.

Here’s the back of the programs, with the dark brown thread:

As you can see, they didn’t turn out perfectly. The ones I did are clearly superior (at least in my ever-so-humble opinion, ha ha), but you know what? I wasn’t willing to spend all the time, energy and money to get our sewing machine repaired and sew through another 75 programs. So in the end, all was well!

By the way, I am TOTALLY running out of things to tell you guys about because my professional pictures still aren’t here. Any ideas? Anything I haven’t covered that you’d like to hear about?

These programs are darling. I particularly like the illustration on the front — you’re so talented! So maybe you could just tell us about how you got to be so awesome?!

I think the programs done by the cobbler actually turned out better. They turned out cute!

I had to remind myself several times during the planning process that 99% of the people there wouldn’t notice ANY of the small details. Then, of course, I would want to try and please the other 1%.

I do love the zig zag stitch, but I don’t think as many people will notice that detail of your programs compared to the other cool things inside. The person who’s going to notice the zip zag stitch is you when you look in your scrapbook. And the program that will be there? Zip zag stitch.

They’re really cute. I saw your initial post about these. How did you create the cartoons? In Photoshop?

Thats frickin crazy that you can see those imprints from the industrial crazy sewing machine! I agree, your stitch was totally hotter, but TOTALLY not worth the headache to do all by yourself!

With the comparison, I can see how the cobbler’s version would be the final straw in a very long day. They are not at all like your perfect version with the straight stitch, tan threads, and indentations. However, if you don’t compare the cobbler version to the perfect version, they are still super-cute. Which would explain why the cobbler was confused. A little thread color isn’t a huge deal. They look fantastic as-is!

Did you get good feedback from your guests on the books?

Perhaps I’ve missed the posts, but I’d like to know if you decided to do menus or not and how your favors turned out.

Thanks Guys!!

@ Emily–we invited 160 and 124 came. :)

@ KLevi–Actually, I drew them! I’m an illustrator. :)

@ Momma Puff–don’t worry, I’ve got one for you!

@ jtg–people said they really appreciated the detail. I wish I could have been there to hear what they said when they first saw them.
We did decide to do menus: http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/05/30/mini-menus-and-diy-to-dos/

The favors turned out really well–people loved them. We do have about 15 pounds of mini eggs left over, though!
