Dress Shopping is Over!

Part 1
Part 2
The Vera Wang that Almost Was…

So, you’ve seen the dresses I liked, disliked, and the one I let slip away. Now, lets move on to the fun part!

Mr. Dumpling: do not read any further.

I said STOP, Mr. Dumpling!

I can’t believe that I almost didn’t try this dress on! It’s Vineyard for Priscilla of Boston.  The style is called “Emily”.

The front has a belt/strappy thing. I can’t decide if I want to remove it or not.

This is where the train will be bustled.

Yay! I can have boobs in this dress!

As you can see, the top part of the dress is going to be difficult to modify for a small chest, so I’ll just have to buy a padded bra. I have a pair of Spanx, but I think something more heavy duty might work for this dress. I wonder if there is some sort of one piece Spanx-like suit with a padded bra? But, if I wore this one piece, how would I pee?  I guess I’ll have to figure out what to wear under this dress soon!

Has anyone tried the stick-on boobs that look like chicken cutlets? Do they work?

It is SO gorgeous, great choice!! I love the detail on the back.

Oh and about a stick on bra — I have the Nu-Bra (got it at Nordies) and I absolutely love it. It stays on for an entire day even in hot weather, adds about a cup size, and gives me a nice shape. I think larger chested girls don’t like it since it doesn’t give them enough support, but I don’t have that problem :)

yes! the cutlets work quite well. especially if you follow the instructions (no lotion or powder on the girls before you stick ‘em on). also the nubra (available many places, least expensive is gapbody) might work out. i like soma’s bodyshapers (very seamless, stay in place also), but i don’t know if they have a built in bra one. plus you’re right, i don’t know how you’d handle bathroom trips.

If you’re small like me, you may like the NuBra Featherlite better than the gel one. I find it much less heavy and it adds more in terms of actual cup size. Plus, it gives me cleavage :)

Gorgeous dress!

Yay for your Priscilla. She’s gorgeous. And hot! I have the Nu Bra, and it works fine. But I think you might be more comfortable if your seamstress builds a little somethin somethin into the dress. Then you won’t have to wear a bra at all.

I’m a B and I find the chicken cutlets make your boobs sag, they just stick and the weight makes them hang, nothing to lift them up. Ms. Pom wrote a post on that. However, if I put them with a bra then they work great to add some extra umph (first time my boobs have ever met in the middle). Maybe you could have your seamstress build a bra into the dress and then for some extra boobage use the Nu Bra.

Spanx sells a body suit that can be attached to any bra. I saw it on http://www.herroom.com

I had a similar experience as Shanna with the chicken cutlets. I returned them and will just go au natural and love my natural shape. (Every other day I’m padded :))

I just took the Nubra for a test run yesterday, in fact, and I had the same experience as Shanna. I’m a B-cup and they did give me some cleavage but they also weighted my boobs down and felt uncomfortably heavy. I think I’m going to try out the Featherlites just for the cleavage and have my seamstress sew in cups.

Gorgeous dress and you look stunning in it!
My sister has a pair of those cutlets that stick to you as a bra and she always has trouble w/ one of the not sticking, but I think if you dress helped keep it to your body, you’d be fine, if you also had that problem.

awesome dress… wow! i think the spanx bodysuits come with a set of folds so that you don’t have to take the whole thing off when nature calls.

make sure you can breathe alright, though… i know a bride who fainted because she had an all-in-one bra plus slimmer. (get the right size and that shouldn’t be an issue)

In the full length photos the belt, strappy thing catches the light and draws attention to your trim waist, yet in the close-up shots I can’t figure out why it even exists in the design because it draws the eye away from the bead work.

Oooh, it’s gorgeous! I love Priscilla of Boston.

When you get the dress in, ask the alterations lady about having padded bra cups sewn into the gown. That’s what the woman at the bridal salon suggested for my gown (I’m a small B cup myself). She said it runs about $15 — much cheaper than buying a strapless padded bra!

It’s beautiful. I would take the little belt/sash thing off, because it hits at a weird place…not under the lace, but too high to be your waist. It’s such a pretty gown.

i love that they used large binder clips to pull the dress back… that explains why samples are often a snagged, ripped, mess.

the dress looks great on. i’d wait until you have the dress in your size to decide on whether you want to remove the sash. it may hit you in a different place and i imagine it’s designed to hit in the smallest part of the waist which is usually a flattering look.

Yay for scoring something fabulous! Emily’s a hottie.

Those one piece spanx type deals, usually have snaps in the bottom so you can potty fairly easily.

I have a small chest also and I had to have bra pads sewn into my dress and I’m still wearing a corset with chicken cutlets in it (blushes) but it works and gives a little ompf!

what about a miniskirt like body suit, unstead of the kind with legs? just as slimming, but less wiggling for the bathroom. what if you need to #2?! those little slits are not that generous, and who wants to hold the slits open to go potty?!

Oh my, you ROCK that dress! Lovely, lovely — congrats! :D

I’m small in the chest and had a strapless gown. FYI, my seamstress didn’t think sewn-in cups would give me enough to fill out the bodice well (I lost a little weight before the wedding) and I felt a little nervous about the stick-on things. I would recommend Nordstrom’s — they’re good at helping you find the right undergarments. I ALWAYS wear an A cup but they found a B-cup strapless bra that actually fit me (a miracle!) AND made me a B, so I filled out my dress quite nicely! YMMV, though . . .

Oooh…pretty train. I think I would remove the belt thingy. Don’t know if it’s supposed to be tied on better but in your picture it looks out of place on your dress.

Beautiful dress! Plus she and I are name twins so that makes me like it even more!! Also, the embellishment on the train is a-ma-zing. Can’t help in the chest area, but I’m sure a great seamstress can, as Tim Gunn would say, “make it work!” Congrats!

I have a one piece suit that has what I call a “pee hole,” where you can open the crotch area and pee. I got it from JC Penney. Here’s the link:
http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?DeptID=50475&CatID=51885&GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=13e21bf&attrtype=&attrvalue=&CmCatId=50475|51209|51885&mscssid=692204e8c07ec4c44948d7fdeadffcc06xMnVNoV5a3oxMnVNoV5a3W200BE95B670EAB6C15487FD5280AFB901F4A0824919

I also got 20% off by searching for discount codes, but I think the one I used expired at the end of August.

What a beautiful choice! I also second asking for padded bra cups to be sewn into your dress. I am doing the same for my own Priscilla dress (Platinum #102) and love the effect!

Thanks everyone! I am totally blushing over here! I think i’ve decided to leave the belt for now. But ill keep ya posted!

@Caroline: Yeah, lol, im just flat chested and was hoping for some support. I think I might just go without or have my seamstress sew some in like Haute Cocoa said.
@Miss Avocado: Just as long as I dont look like a “hot tranny mess.” How fantastic was Christian from Project Runway?
@Miss Coconut: Thanks, I was worried he wouldnt like it since he told me he hated those kinds of dresses one day randomly when I was watching Say Yes to the Dress. But then he made it clear it was only the extreme mermaids.
@Joyful2: I was so worried about going pee! LOL. Thanks, I check that out!
