About Mrs. Hot Cocoa

As I mentioned in Friday’s post, I’m still on the hunt for affordable, stylish dresses for the six ladies in my bridal party. Thus far in my search, it seems like in the bona fide “bridesmaid dress” world, there are two types of dresses: 1) decent (or even cute) but way overpriced or 2) cheap but . . . well, cheap. Designed by Blayne cheap. Cheaplicious.

I’ve thus been branching out in my search, looking for off-the-rack options. Let me show you what I found at the Nordstrom sale!

For those of you with ladies sized 10, 12, and 14, here’s an elegant dress for a formal wedding, on sale for $87:

How about this Jim-Hjelm-like number for $98? Available only in 6 and 14, unfortunately.

This Maggy London chiffon dress comes in a few different shades of blue — perfect for a waterfront or destination wedding — and is only $91.90!

Here’s another similar design, but with no sash . . . which seems to make the model sad. But perhaps she’d perk up if she knew that the dress, which also comes in blue, is only $64.90.

This JS Boutique strapless ruched dress is only $57.90 and comes in a rainbow of colors.

Or how about this chic David Meister dress for $89.90?

Alas, none of these dresses work with our color scheme (shades of purple), so I’m going to have to keep looking. Any chance one of these dresses might work for your wedding party?

I was thinking about one of the two Maggie London dresses! They are way too cute and you can’t beat the price. Right now, they’re on my short list. :) Good luck finding purple!! Can’t wait to see the winner (wherever it is!)

Major props for the Project Runway reference, Miss HC!

If you haven’t found your dresses yet, I have a suggestion — Ann Taylor has some gorgeous purple dresses in their Celebrations line. Right now they’re $188, but Ann Taylor always runs amazing sales at the end of the season. It might be worth keeping an eye on their webpage to see if the gowns drop to within your price range.

Just wanted to add that lots of department stores do price adjustments. A dress I ordered from macys.com was $140 originally but was on sale for $94.50 yesterday only. I called today, asked for a price adjustment and they refunded my credit card with the difference.

I think their price adjustments are good for within 10 days of the purchase date.

If you haven’t already found your dresses, I second the suggestion to check Ann Taylor. My BM dresses were originally $198, but then went on sale, and I used a code to get them for an additional %60 off (with free shipping). It came out to around $80. I also love the project runway reference…

@Amanda: Those are so pretty! Your BMs will love them.

@MelissaB and @Paige: I’m definitely keeping an eye on them, in case they go on sale! Thanks for the suggestion.

I just wanted to say I wore the maggie london dress with the satin sash in forest green as a bridesmaid, and I loved it. It was affordable and it looked great on all of us. I even wore it again– the night I got engaged!

@bbexx: That is cute. Unfortunately, the junior sizing only goes up to size 12, and I need a range of sizes 0 to 14. Thanks for the suggestion!

I used the Maggie London one (the blue one above) for my wedding, we bought them last fall in a beautiful eggplant purple color.
I don’t have my professional pictures yet, and only one semi-decent shot of it:

We got them at Nordstroms, so don’t give up!

Hi there,

I love the blue Maggy London chiffon dress. Do you mind posting the website where I might order this dress?

Thank you!

Dana

We used the blue dresses in our wedding. The girls LOVED them. And most alterations at nordy’s are free, which is pretty awesome. One issue though was with the bras, it was difficult to find ones that would work, because the halter bodice is a tad thin.

@Manda: It looks great! The rich purple is gorgeous.

@Dana: Yup! It’s just nordstrom.com. Happy shopping!

@Emily: Ooh — I didn’t even know about the free alterations. That’s spectacular.

I found some beautiful dresses (that I’d already seen in person) on houseofbrides.com. Watters has a stunning “plum” color, & Bill Levkoff has a “eggplant” available- both in several styles! I was going to do plum also, but changed my mind when the groom axed black tuxes!
