Black Light Mini Golf, Anyone?

September 8th, 2008 @ 2:39 pm by Mrs. Milkshake

Here’s a picture of my maid of honor and I. I must admit, I think I look pretty darn cute!

ms1

Mr. Milkshake and I share a common disdain for clubbing and bars. I feel like I’m always the only sober one in the gross, sweaty crowd of strangers watching everyone around me acting stupidly. I’ve learned to bring my earplugs (yes, earplugs) because it freaks me out if I’m unable to hear the next day. So when it came time for my bachelorette party, I knew exactly what I wanted:

good pie, for all my girlfriends to wear hideous dresses, and to go to what I call, “happy happy fun land.” In reality, I believe it is called Castle Fun Park, and it’s a good one hour drive into the valley from Vancouver. The place features everything from mini golf, to bumper cars, to batting cages, to old-school arcade games, and more.

ms2

We drove all the way to a super small airport in Chilliwack, BC, a town with a population of 70,000 people. There, I introduced my friends to the most fabulous pie I’d ever had (and I normally couldn’t care less for pie!). Then we were off to “happy happy fun land,” where we started out by playing an under-the-sea round of mini golf, under the glow of black light. I probably should have specified “hideous white dresses,” but everyone was wearing a little something that made them stand out anyway. One of my friends’ bra straps peeked out around her shoulders, and I enjoyed just how saliently they stood out with their purple glow. I liked how we had transferred all of our purses (pictured below) from hole to hole.

This hole on the putt putt course had something resembling a giant vagina, where my friend, in her fabulous pink dress, reenacted birth.

I want an excuse to do this again and again! The only friends I had in college were boys, and it was beyond fun for me to hang out with my girlfriends, some of whom I hadn’t seen in about seven years! It was almost like a birthday party, in that it gave me an excuse to hang out with all my girlfriends that don’t necessarily know each other. I love how they came from all walks of my life, and everyone had a blast. They found common interests in things like scrapbooking, and, surprisingly, two of them bonded over Dance Dance Revolution! At the end of the night we pooled all of our tickets together and were able to put them toward a handful of kazoos for everyone. I also walked away with a sweet little cow friend that I named “pig.”

Did you stray away from clubs and bars at your bachelorette party?

I will definitley NOT be going to a bar for my bachelorette. Not to dig anyone that does, but it has never been my style. Your party is a lot closer to what I would want to do, and it probably won’t be just for the girls, maybe a bunch of us together at a place like Dave & Busters.

http://www.airportcoffeeshop.com/ - it’s seriously just a ghetto small shop at the chilliwack airport. but, best pies ever. and good selection, too.

mrs. gingerbread - your cake looked fabulous, and i love the B&W photo of you two in your last post!

I just wanted to hang out in a hotel room, have a few drinks and give ourselves pedicures.

I just want to go dancing. I never get to unless it’s at a wedding or a fireman’s banquet (so maybe twice a year). I’m the type to shut the place down when dancing. I don’t drink often and when I do indulge it is usually only one or two low alcohol drinks. I also don’t like huge crowds, since I am short and get elbowed in the face a lot in crowds so clubs are not so great for me.
Also, I want some really great food!

This sounds like my kind of bachelorette! I want something low-key and silly, just relaxing and having fun with my girls. Now I just need to convince the girls that there ARE alternatives to the drunken, embarassing, strippers-involved, night-on-the-town bachelorette!

Good for you. I’m going to a pub then a club *but* I’m not excluding my male friends, so it’s non-traditional in that sense.

I’m glad you had so much fun! I’m the same way about clubs… ick. My friends “surprised” me with a bachelorette party in their hotel room the night before the wedding (there was no other time we could all manage to get together). They all shouted “we got you a stripper” when I walked in, and lo and behold there was a blown up poster of a nearly-naked man. They handed me a pair of construction paper boxers, spun me around, and had me “pin the short on sexyman”. We also had a Thomas the Tank Engine pinata, filled with candy and condoms (which I didn’t notice until after they sent me back to my room with them!), and we watched Rocky Horror, which we were all obsessed with back when we first knew each other in 7th grade. It was fabulous, and even if it was short I was so glad to be with the girls again.

My bachelorette was non-clubby as well. First we went for dinner, then we went to a licensed bowling alley for a night of black-light immersed, uncoordinated drunken bowling.

Many years ago, a friend and I went mini-golfing at an indoor putt-putt couse with a black light. She had on a really lightweight sweater with a white bra underneath. Her bra glowed through her sweater the whole time…it was hilarious!

Your b-party looks like it was lots of fun!

The dress up idea is such a fun way to add a unique element to the party. It looks like your bridesmaids really loved it too! I am so obsessed with DDR. I need to find a way to work it into my bach party.

Looks like so much fun! My girls and I have decided to go to brunch and then a wine tour for my bachelorette party. We live in VA and there are TONS of cute wineries in the area. Viva non-traditional b-parties!

Looks like everyone had a blast. I love the ugly dress theme. I think the pink off the shoulder was my favorite dress.

[...] had the upper hand at her bachelorette and made all her gals dress up in ridiculous dresses to go blacklight mini-golfing and play old-school games like Skee-Ball, so I wouldn’t know the first thing about raunchy [...]
