OOT Reusable Bags!

September 8th, 2008 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Coconut

Check out our OOT reusable grocery bags from Whole Foods! We were really committed to the idea of getting bags that people would be encouraged to use for grocery shopping. I can’t remember the last time I replied “plastic” or “paper” in the grocery line, because I’m always carrying handy bags from our local market. My best friend/bridesmaid Ashley scouted the local Whole Foods in her neighborhood and found the cutest bags that only cost $0.99 a piece! She bought a box of 50 bags for our out of town guests.

Is anyone else giving eco-friendly bags to their out-of-town guests?

I love these, they are so cute! I just got two last week at WF, the cashier gave them to me free. Apparently, there is a coupon somewhere for free bags, but I didn’t have one, so she gave them to me anyways. I never thought of using them for OOT bags, genius idea! :)

Wow, great job on this find! These are so pretty and colorful, and I bet your guests will actually use them. Now you’ve got to find some earth-friendly stuff to put in them.

Target also has some cute ones that zip up into a small pouch. They are red and have white birds on them.

Target has really cute reusable bags too, but they’re a bit more than these (I think about $1.49?), maybe doable if you’re not having as many out of town guests. I always have my reusable bags at the grocery store, and luckily they give a 5 cent credit for each bag! :)

Trader Joe’s (I dunno if that is a CA only store) has resuable bags and so does JoAnn’s Fabric stores. I think most grocery stores have them now. That is a great idea, makes total sense.

We did a wedding where the bride was very eco-friendly and the favors they gave to their guests were personalized reusable grocery bags (”I went to [bride] and [groom's] wedding…and all I got was this awesome reusable shopping bag!”) The tag says they got it from:
http://www.environmentbags.com/ and on that website it says they personalize the message and customize the bag size (from large bags to wine totes) and color. And they give a percentage of proceeds to various environmental agencies. I think it is a TERRIFIC idea for a favor!

We wanted to get everyone reusable shopping bags, but didn’t want to use the store-branded ones and the non-branded ones were too pricey. So, we bought fabric and mom sewed some. Hooray for crafty moms!

I love the idea of reusable bags - we keep several in our car and I carry two of the pouch-style ones in my bag in case we’re biking or walking. I get so much use out of them and don’t have to worry about how to reuse paper or plastic bags - we simply don’t get them. :)

Awesome idea! We are mad WF fans as the headquarters is here in A-town…might have to swing by for some reusable OOT bags!

Awesome idea! I use these same bags for shopping and they are super durable and cute! I think I might use these as gift bags for my bridesmaids…

Hey, those are neat — but when I went in July, all they had were the plain green ones with the Whole Foods logo. :( I like these a lot! We ended up using Walgreen’s green bags (also 99 cents each) that had a symbol in the middle encouraging recycling and such (not the usual reduce-reuse-recycle but something similar); they seemed better ’cause they didn’t display the store logo very prominently.

Yours are so cute! :) Now tell us how you are fillin’ ‘em up! :D

Stop and Shop has some really cute ones right now for $.99. They are lime green with purple design. They do say Stop and Shop, but not too bad.
I’m having a beach wedding, so I am buying flip flops for everyone at Old Navy for $2.50 each and putting them in the bags with either a bottle of water or a little travel size of sunscreen.
