Chic Hostess Gifts on the Cheap

September 9th, 2008 @ 5:02 pm by Mrs. Pomegranate

I am one of those extremely blessed brides that have friends and family members who decided to throw me three bridal showers! In fact, unbeknownst to me, there was a fourth shower secretly planned by my co-workers that I attended last week. This last shower left me a tad unprepared - but I came armed with hostess gifts for the other three showers. With three times the gifts including co-hosts and junior hostesses, I ended up purchasing twelve hostess gifts within my budget of $125. No worries - I love me a shopping challenge!

For the first shower, I chose a simple gift of some Willow Tree figurines. My MOH had received one of them many years ago and loved it - so I thought that she needed a new one to add to her collection. I purchased the “Thank You - Appreciating Your Kindness” Angel for my MOH and the “Just for You - With Sincere Thanks” Angel for MOH’s Mom, who gave us her home to party in.

With a slightly smaller budget for the second shower, I made myself a budget of $10 each for the three hostesses, who were all friends of my mom. She gave me a hint and told me that they might like some yummy lotions or something to that effect. So I headed to the Ulta near my office and picked up the yummiest smelling lotions ($3), body washes ($3) and a few bath beads ($1 for 7) for an extra kick.

I wrapped them up in a sleeve of paper, tied a sheer ribbon around the package and made sure to catch the ties of the sheer drawstring bag that contained the bath beads. Each person received a small DIY Thank You card that read, “Thank you for pampering me, now it’s my turn to pamper YOU! With Love, Miss Pom.”

I loved shopping for these little gift sets - and I have to admit, one of my favorite parts of the showers were when I surprised my dear friends and family with their own fun surprise. The third set of hostess gifts will be saved for another post. Stay tuned for a quick cheap chic junior hostess gift idea for about $2 a piece, as well as a French-themed gift for those who have a little more to spend.

What kinds of gifts did you give to your Bridal Shower or Bachelorette Party Hostesses?

VERY cute….I’m struggling with this, myself. I have two adult couples, giving us a couples shower. I feel like I need to give them something for the both of them but I can’t figure out what! Would it be tacky to send them flowers the day of (for the people hosting at their home) and the next day (for the other couple)?

I scored when I hit up the Bath & Body Works sale and got a ton of great lotions and potions for hostesses for the first two showers…then I did bottles of champagne for the bm’s who threw the third shower. Four showers?!?! I thought I was spoiled. =)

@jamieb: flowers are a great idea…bring them for both couples to the shower…then everyone can enjoy them and they can continue to enjoy them afterwards. (I wanted to do flowers, but with a florist throwing you a shower, that’s not a brilliant idea)

@jamieb: I think flowers are TOTALLY acceptable! Ditto what Ryn says - they’re a gift that keeps on giving!

@Ryn: LOVE the bottle of champagne idea! I hadn’t even thought of that. :)

I made personalized stationary for the 6 hostesses of a bridal shower that was thrown for me. In Microsoft Word or Publisher, use the “Postcard” template (which will give you 4 flat notecards per sheet of paper). Create monograms, spell their names out in a cool font, you get the idea . . . I did each woman’s monogram/name in a different color. Print out 8-12 cards (2-3 sheets of cardstock per host) for each woman on your home printer and cut them out or have Kinkos do it for you. Staples or any other store carries 5 1/2 Bar Envelopes for super cheap. Bind together the cards and envelopes with a belly-band printed up on regular 8.5 x 11 in. paper that has been printed with a cool design and voila–extremely cheap, but very cool hostess gifts.
For a nicer gift that I gave a family friend that threw us an engagement party, I put together a really nice gourmet food basket. I found a nice basket at a discount store and filled it with Trader Joe’s saucisson, crackers, nice cheese, olives, bruschetta spread, marinated veggies, and a bottle of wine. They loved it.

I think that wine is always a nice hostess gift or even a card saying thank you.

I gave my bachelorette hostesses personalized beach towels. It seemed to be fitting- we went to hang out in West Palm Beach for the weekend.

Someone’s already taken the ’shabby chic’ title but you are definitely the Queen of ‘cheap chic’ (and if you ask me, I’d take cheap over shabby any day!). You wow me with your thoughtfulness! Thanks for the inspiration.

Daniel @ Baby Shower Ideas

Since our wedding was due to an unexpected guest inside me I had a list of baby shower ideas then took that advice when gift shopping. It worked out really well.
