About Mrs. Sea Breeze

At Last

September 10th, 2008 @ 10:29 am by Mrs. Sea Breeze

You know that gorgeous song, ‘At Last’, by Etta James? The one that just makes your heart melt each time you hear it, even if it’s the umpteenth time? Yeah, that’s the one.

A lot of people use it as one of their wedding songs—to serenade them at the rehearsal dinner, to walk down the aisle to, or dance their first dance to. But me? I could NOT get that song out of my head the other day…

… the day I finally bought my bridesmaids’ dresses, that is!

Yep. After much pavement pounding, stressing out, extensive online shopping and a trip south of the border, I came full circle and found my bridesmaid dresses—at last—at a store right here in my hometown.

Argh!!!

I guess everything happens for a reason though.

One day Mr. Breezy and I were at a mall called Park Royal, and as he headed off to the video game store, I said I’d just pop my head into RW & Co. and meet him in five minutes.

Then I saw them, and I rushed back to find him.

“Do you think they’re ok?” I whispered anxiously, hoping he would approve.

“Yeah, they’re nice,” he said, “try one on.”

sb1

sb2

(Mr. Breezy played with the camera settings, as he tried to capture the ‘real’ color of the dress.)

It was simple, with a twist: little frills of crinoline at the top…

sb3

…and at the bottom (which I’m still not sure if we’re going to leave on or cut off… what do you think?).

sb4

And what’s more, they were strapless but came with detachable straps! How awesome is that?

sb5

And the best part of it all?

sb6

They were $98 each! If you will recall, Mr Breezy and I had decided to buy the dresses for our bridesmaids since they were shelling out so much just to be at our wedding in the Dominican Republic. So, finding affordable dresses made us verrry happy.

But wait… Did I say they were $98?

sb7

Oops, I meant they were $29.95. Oh, SNAP!

I think I may have just bought the cheapest bridesmaid dresses in the history of the universe! As if THAT weren’t enough, when I took them home, I realized…

sb8

sb9

… they match the color of my wedding shoes one-hundred-and-ten-percent!

I guess all the pain and angst we went through finding these dresses really was worth it, because they turned out to be perfect in the end.

I think my three bridesmaids will be pleased. I wish I could show you pictures of them wearing their dresses, but I have to ship them to New York, Toronto and Calgary this week, so I think you’ll have to wait ’till November to see those pictures.

Did you find your bridesmaid dresses by total fluke? Do I take the trophy for most affordable bridesmaid dresses of the century, or do you?

Ok, those are adorable, that’s an amazing price and your shoes are H O T! They are a perfect match!

My vote is to take off the crinoline at the bottom, but that’s just a personal pref. Either way they are going to be perfect!

how perfect! They are very cute. Note: “crinoline” is a historical horsehair/wire cage skirt structural undergarment. I think you mean “tulle.” ;) Ps, love your shoes!

OMG Ms. SeaBreeze, you found their dresses! I am super excited for you. I want my bridesmaids to wear a purple too - more of a plum color and am already having difficulty finding the proper shade. Your story is inspiring :)

gorgeous!! what an incredible find, too!

i think it would look cuter w/o the frillies on the bottom though. i think one edge with the frills is plenty :)

how AWESOME that it matches your wedding shoes… so serendipitous!

OMG. Those are perfect. And I love love love the tulle. It’s a bit brighter than the purple I’m looking for for my bm dresses, or else I’d be on a plane to visit you RIGHT NOW.

i agree - you should defo leave the tulle on the bottom; it gives it a more finished (albeit spicy) look ;)

They are very very pretty! And, I kind of like the little frills on the bottom, pretty cute. But I must say, my bridesmaids dresses were cheaper. 20 dollars. Woot! I love me some bargain shoppin’. :)

@MissKakes: I was originally thinking more of a plum color too but that was truly impossible so I took what I could get. :-) With all the purple in the stores now though, I think you’ll be more successful!

@Miss Hot Cocoa: Except I got the last ones in all of Canada. Boo-yah.

@mrshudson: Wa-wa-wee-wah! 20 bucks??? You win!

@Miss Shortcake: How did I miss this comment? Of course you’re right, it’s tulle, not crinoline! D’oh. I think my mind is still in ‘Other Boleyn Girl’ land (loved that movie!).

Hmm, maybe I need to do a poll about the tulle on the bottom. Now I’m REALLY torn as to whether to keep it or cut it off…

I love the tulle, I think its really cute, especially if they are doing a neutral shoe… have you asked your maids what they think? I would go with what their preference is b/c wearing tulle is probably a very personal choice depending on how girlie of a girl you are! What a great find, though– I looove the fact that they match your wedding shoes!!! Completely darling. :)

Those are SO cute. I had a similar exciting experience. My MOH and I went to Macys just to try on a couple dress to start to get a feel and we found the most perfect dresses!
They are the greatest shade of yellow and were on clearance from 140$ to 66$.
Where are your adorable purple ones from? I love that they match your shoes too- how wonderful!

woo-hoo! after traipsing alllllllll over the place, i’m glad you found such a great deal on a style that is great.

to me, the tulle at the bottom says ‘young and flirtatious’ whereas, sans-tulle, it would be a bit more sophisticated. i love the tulle at the top, though! oh, and looking back with your dress, i think sans-tulle might be the better move.

i’d lose the tulle, like a previous user commented it is a little promish. the fit of the dress is super classic without it and would remain timeless in photos.

great find!

first of all, the dresses are adorable. the best things come to those who wait :) and about the tulle - i’d let the girls chose. take a vote. after all, they get to wear them!

secondly, ms. sea breeze, you have the potential to be my savior (at least of my mental health)! i’m seriously considering a caribbean destination wedding, but i’m clueless. i have tons of questions, and i’d love your wisdom and advice. if you don’t mind, and you can find some time, my email address is jlwhite5@liberty.edu. i hope to hear from you!

The dresses are fabulous!!!! And they look like they cost way more than $30…or $98 for that matter. But please, remove the tulle from the bottom…i think it “cheapens” the look of the dress.

Great find!!!!
