Bridal Anxiety

Bridal Anxiety : wedding las vegas Woman S

I already have lots of anxiety about, well, everything. When I was in high school, I had nightmares that I would either not show up, or forget my pencils on SAT test day. In college, I can clearly remember a recurring dream I had every night on the week leading up to a Model United Nations competition. My squad would show up, but either we forgot to register, forgot to wear our uniforms, or we would be representing a country that was completely made-up. What? Munchkin Land is not a real country? Rats…

Needless to say, now that there is a wedding to plan, I’m having these “dreams” all over again. Sometimes I wake Mr. Dumpling up in the middle of the night and shout things like “MY DRESS!” or “No, we’re going to be late!” but I’m totally talking in my sleep. He says he just laughs and tells me “I have your dress - it’s fine, and you aren’t late.” By now he’s used to me talking all kinds of crazy in my sleep, so he knows what he’s getting into. :)

Lately, Ive been having the same two dreams, over and over again.

Scenario 1-

It’s the day of the wedding and somehow I have forgotten to get my dress altered. In the dream, it’s 2 sizes too big and I’m walking down the aisle asking anyone if they can sew. By the time I reach the end of the aisle, though, my dress fits and everything is A-OK.

Scenario 2-

It’s the day of the wedding and the florist decides not to show up. It’s never the food, the alcohol or the DJ, it’s always the florist. In this one, my dad and I are running up and down Las Vegas Boulevard looking for an open flower shop. We finally realize that it’s midnight (our wedding is at 4pm?) and there isn’t anyone open, so we resort to clipping flowers from someone’s front yard. I’m doing all of this in my two sizes too big dress, and by the time we get back to the church, I’m filthy from digging for flowers.

Mr. Dumpling says I have these dreams because I’m always procrastinating. He’s very type-A with his lists and planning binders, and I’m more of a scribble-it-down on a napkin type person. But, note to self: Get dress altered NOW, confirm confirm confirm with all vendors, and buy a wedding planning binder.

Please tell me that some of you guys are right there with me! Is anyone else having a mini-nightmare that you’ll forget something on your wedding day?

Do not worry, you are not alone! I have a few reoccuring nightmares as well. The most recent (because my dress had to be sent back to the designer 2 weeks before the wedding)- The wrong shows up. It’s a hunter green 80’s style prom dress! I have 1 week until the wedding, and I cannot wait for a good night’s rest.

Just try to relax (easy to say). I’m sure your day will be beautiful- flowers and all!

Ugh, I feel your anxiety! My wedding is in over a year and I already have wedding-related nightmares 1-2 times a week. Even though the details change, the underlying theme is the same for all of them: disorganization and chaos (I can’t find my dad to take formal portraits; one of the bridesmaids bought a dress in a completely different color from the other bridesmaids; my dress doesn’t fit, etc.). Ironic given that I’m very organized plus I have a planner, so you’d think organization is the one area I have covered!

i talk in my sleep too… my fiance thinks it’s funny, but i wish i could stop it somehow!

fortunately i don’t have any wedding-related nightmares, because by the time i go to sleep every night i’m basically exhausted from all the wedding planning. also i know that as long as the groom shows up on the day of the wedding, then everything will be just fine!

My recurring dream would be a nightmare if not for my dream reaction. I dream that the wedding is tomorrow and everything I have finished thus far is how the wedding is gong to be. My reaction - indifference.

In my dream I just shrug my shoulders and say something like “I guess we won’t have any guests since we havn’t sent out invitations yet. Maybe we should call some people and see if they can book a flight tonight and come tomorrow.”

If only I could approach my real life planning with this sort of relaxation.

More than once I have dreamed that I am somehow pregnant on the wedding day.

early in my engagment i had dreams similiar to this…one where my wedding was starting within the hour and i was still an hour and a half away at my parents house. Not dresses and my hair wasnt done….i kept saying to myself that i should have scheduled my hair appt sooner…..

another involved the chapel where our wedding will be held shrinking. there was only one row of pews….and my wedding guests came marching over the hill in the horizon like some kind of armageddon……i could hear their feet…..so many people!

with only 7 weeks to go….my dreams are peaceful. not sure if i’ll start dreaming about the wedding again or not…..

Yep, I have recurring nightmares when stressed. In HS, it was forgetting to go to an exam. In university, it was sleeping through an exam … and though it never happened, I did sleep through a couple classes. Oops. But now … I dream that I find out it’s the wedding a few hours beforehand (and I forgot to get everything done, such as flowers, food, etc) or I forgot to tell anyone to attend (fiance included).
Glad to know I’m not alone, Miss Dumpling!

Ok…so last night I had a crazy birdal dream that I will break down into list points:

1.) I forgot all of my underthings for the dress, which are kind of important.

2.) We (groom and I and some of our non -bidal party friends) smoke a spliff and I get too silly to handle the ceremony

3.) My hairdresser totally crapped out on me, and I forgot all of my makeup.

This was all the same dream.

It’s totally normal to be stressed before your wedding, and if you’re a dreamer to have wild dreams. I remember a few crazy dreams of my own, but things will work out fine. Even if there are mishaps on your wedding day, the most important thing is that you and Mr. Dumpling are getting married. If there’s a fluke with the flowers you would survive - I promise. Don’t beat yourself up about your dreams, but try and take a deep breath and let them go - smiles!

I have the anxiety dreams all the time! The show up to school naked on the first day type dreams :) I had some pre-wedding ones. They also occur the night before my big races (half-marathons) and the night before a really early morning flight! I forget my iPod in the car - think I have enough time before the flight to go get it - then can’t find the car in the parking lot!

I usually wake up and it takes a good 5-10 minutes before I realize it was just a dream and it’s only 3am :) Then I have to try and get back to sleep!
