After sending out the requests for my side of our bridal party, it’s official ~ our wedding website can be updated and… drumroll… the save the dates can be sent!!! This is VERY good news, because I have been bombarded by family members and friends about the details of our big day. Our wedding is pretty far away, and the STDs have been on my mind for quite some time. You may recall I had some difficulty finding a hotel that would be reasonable, and although it’s nearly six months from our wedding, we really wanted our guests to get reasonable rates for travel and lodging.
Our save the dates were pretty simple… because many of our linens and much of the theme will have an underlying damask print, I incorporated that into our save the dates.
I ordered magnets pictured above from Vistaprint on sale - 50 for $7.00! The trick is to sign up for the vistaprint mailing list before ordering anything. Even though they send you a million emails, they usually have very very good deals if you can grab them.
One of the most difficult decisions we made was how to actually send the magnet. Do we just put the magnet in an envelope and hope people know what it is? Do we make the magnet a post card size and just treat it like an invite? After much deliberation, we planned to attach the magnet to an embossed damask note card from Crane and Co. (12 for $15.00). Unfortunately, sending them this way means your guests have to realize the attached card is a magnet. I guess we’ll just hope they know!
Using one of the monograms I had created by Creative Montage (more on this later), I gocco’d some of the details onto the note card. This was done in two steps with two different screens. I used both the black ink and gold ink from Northwood Studios. Here’s step one (black ink) and the obligatory picture of the dog and fiance on the couch. Max adores Champ.. it’s so cute (sorry, Champ- I couldn’t resist!).
To attach the magnet to the notecard, I went to AC Moore (my playground) and purchased some gold photo corners. They were like $3.00 for ~250, and the quality was very good.
At first I used two photo corners, but I like the way that four looked around the magnet.
When our guests receive them and remove the magnet (assuming they know that the center is a magnet), our monogram is revealed!
Here’s a better look at the embossed border on the note cards. I love this collection from Crane and Co (it also comes in blue and light green)…
The Crane and Co. envelopes weren’t lined, so I just used some sheer gold paper to line them. Lined envelopes are so easy, but yet they add so much to an invite.

(Apologies for the blurry picture- my camera is ancient)
I gocco’d the swirl pattern from our monogram (the same swirl used in the Bridesmaid notecards) as part of the return address on the back of the envelope. It’s one of those details that I’m sure nobody will notice, but I thought it tied things together nicely.

So this is how I attached our magnet to the STD. Do you think our guests will know it’s a magnet?! I’m going to put the word out, and we’ll see! Any other unique ways to send a magnet?
