Making Up is Hard to Do

September 11th, 2008 @ 6:25 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

I have been painting since I was 5 years old, but hand me a makeup brush and I freeze. Invitations, aisle runner, centerpieces, programs, guest book? No Problem. I just try to DIY almost any project I can imagine. Makeup? No thank you.

Saturday morning, before the bridal shower and bachelorette party, I will be going for my hair and makeup trial. I am not sure where to begin when asked what kind of look I am hoping for. Here are some photos I collected from ProjectWedding.com. I think these ladies are hot and I am hoping it is partly because of their makeup, and I can have a bit of their hotness.

What do you think? What key words are important in order to convey that I don’t want to be too pink or too drag queen?

From these pictures? Warm neutral palette, natural brows, soft smoky eye, matte skin, subtle cheek flush, creamy neutral lip color.

in order to avoid the drag queen look, stay away from lots of contouring. its the shadowing of the countouring that give drag queens their “look”.

so emphasize that you DONT want a lot of “sculpting”. a little right under you cheekbones and along the jawline is all u may need…if that.

your #2 pic definitely has some sculpting going on…..make sure you are clear to the makeup artist that what u like about that picture is the eyes and lips…not the sculpting. Check out her nose…that does not say natural.

GL!

I agree! I would specify and be specific this way there is no mix ups. I was like that on my wedding day and was very happy with the end result!

By the way I love the second choice as a guide for what you want.

I love the first two pics - I’m stealing them to show my makeup artist! I agree with the other s- “warm tones” for sure!

to me the picture of carrie underwood is dramatically different than the others. her eye makeup is much more dramatic - lots o’ black eyeliner. that being said - i love it. she’s gorgeous (i sort of hate her for it), and i think that would be one of the “sexier” options. that’s the one i would choose for me, but if you’re going for a more natural look the second one is beautiful too. i’m sure you’ll look hot either way. ;)

I love the Carrie Underwood photo too, that’s just what I was looking for, thanks!
It is quite different to the other looks but neutral, natural and warm but not pink that should get the message across.

If you have makeup already in shades that you love, it helps to bring it with you. Sometimes you’re just not speaking the same language as the makeup artist, which can be frustrating, but if you can show her what colors you wear normally she can modify that look enough to make it softer or more dramatic without giving you a set of colors that just isn’t you.

I would say specifically, “don’t make me look like a drag queen, and i don’t like pink.” I love having my makeup done…. i have always felt like the best version of myself with it done professionally. Don’t be afraid to tell them if you don’t like something….this is your trial and your time to get it right. Can’t wait to see glamour Miss Pineapple!

Why not bring in some pictures of yourself in makeup that you like as well? I think what happens with makeup artists is that since they don’t know you, they don’t know your normal going out look, so they may go unintentionally overboard.
