Our “After the Wedding” List

September 11th, 2008 @ 5:09 pm by Mrs. Cupcake

Um. Hi. Remember me? It’s me, Miss Cupcake. I know I haven’t blogged in, like, ages, and you’ve probably forgotten all about me and Mr. Cupcake and our wedding. But I hope you will forgive me, dear hive. You see, with the wedding fast approaching (nine days, gulp!), things have been a little crazy in the life of this Cupcake. (”Little” being the understatement of the century.)

There are DIY projects, lessons, failures, excitement, frustrations, and surprises to be blogged about…. but until I get around to sitting down and coherently telling you all about those things, I thought I’d tell you about something that is keeping Mr. Cupcake and I going these days. It’s what we call our “After The Wedding” list.

The “After The Wedding” list is our mental list of all the things we can’t wait to do once the wedding is over. It’s not to say that we aren’t extremely excited for our fast approaching (did I mention how fast? NINE DAYS!) big day. But we are also ready for our nineteen month engagement period to come to an end, to make our vows to one another, to celebrate like crazy with our friends and family, to take the most relaxing vacation of our lives, and to get back to a somewhat normal life. Among the things we are looking forward to are:

  • taking cooking classes (this one’s all me)
  • getting our apartment back (meaning free of wedding clutter)
  • visiting friends and cousins who live in other states
  • taking leisurely Saturdays to do absolutely nothing
  • being able to decide on a whim to take a Sunday drive somewhere new, and actually having the time to do it
  • going to Quizzo on Monday nights at our favorite neighborhood bar
  • watching football with the boys (Mr. Cupcake) while I get shipped off somewhere
  • working on fun Gocco/artsy/construction projects just because we want to, not because we “have” to for the wedding
  • having a social life

As much as we’re so excited for our day to get here, we’re also really looking forward to being husband and wife and not feeling the “wedding deadline” looming overhead with everything we do and every social-life decision we make.

Do you have an “After The Wedding” list? What are you looking forward to doing the most once your wedding is over?

Hang in there, Miss Cupcake! I am loving “after the wedding”! Ahh, going to the farmer’s market for the first time all summer (last weekend) was such a thrill.

“After the wedding” is BEYOND awesome! “Get ready for greatness, Lloyd” (aka Miss Cupcake!)

Next summer will be grand! Farmer’s Markets were on my list too, but I completely missed them this year. Next year will be delicious! Otherwise, my hubby had biking to whatever concerts we want on the drop of a dime… This summer, there was a wedding-related barrier to all sorts of Chicago summer fun!

Ah, all in all, not too long ago, my hubby looked at me and said “I am so glad I never have to get married again!” And I completely agree. :)

We are almost two months “after the wedding,” and while wedding planning was something we agree was loads of fun, we are really happy to have our lives back. Long bike rides in the evenings, weekends away, and just hanging out with friends are something we really missed. Now if only we could get the rest of the wedding present put away so that we can have the back end of our dining room back!

The Mr. is getting more excited as he refers to this weekend as the last wedding weekend. We are 9 days out as well, and we both are super excited to pick up our poker games and solitaire championships. Taking trips on a whim. Spending time in Barnes & Noble w/o watching the clock- because I should be doing something.
I miss our Saturday morning runs and then pure laziness if we desired.
I am anxous to get to the After Wedding.

Hang in there — you’re almost there and nine days will go fast, I’ll bet!

Call me weird . . . I was married July 26 and I feel a little lost without wedding to-do stuff! I think I have a little PTWS (Post-Traumatic Wedding Syndrome) going on. That, plus over six weeks post-wedding, I finally have thank-you cards done but am not done with our wedding Web site yet (still have wedding and honeymoon pix to finish posting) nor do I have the wedding album from the photog yet, so it still ain’t over (I should be glad given how I’m feeling, but it’s that post-wedding limbo that’s a bit crazy-feeling)!

I hope I’m not scaring anyone; I’m sure you’ll all be fine! ;-) :-)

Hoy cow - we are W minus 8 days and it helps me to know that I’m not the only crazed person!! I actually have our “after the wedding” list on a chalkboard in our kitchen. It’s our “fall fun list” for October and November and it includes taking a drive to Big Bear, going to the pumpkin patch, having a pumpkin carving party, hosting my sister’s surprise 40th “Broadway Birthday Bash”, watching football on Sunday afternoon, and going to the Miramar Air Show. Can’t wait!!

I am right there with you! After the wedding we just want to relax and get back to normal. Honestly though, I just want to say “husband” as many times as I can. “Where’s my husband?” “Have you met my husband?” “My husband took me to dinner.” LOL. =)

My dear love and I always talk about how “We’ll do this or that after the wedding.” We’re going to start by actually saving money and doing the things on our “House Repair/Replace List.” We haven’t gotten the chance to do a lot of the things we’ve wanted with our first home since we got engaged right before we moved in.
Goodvoile- I’m thinking I’ll be down with a case of the same thing after our wedding. I’m going to miss wedding planning. It’s been so fun!

I am excited to live in the same place after the wedding! Almost our entire relationship has been long distance and it will be so nice to be able to see each other at least once a week, every week, for the rest of our lives. Maybe we will even be lucky enough to see each other once a day!

I totally understand that! Although we are still wrapping up wedding gifts, we actually have time to just enjoy each other and our friends. Good luck in the home stretch! :)

Finally getting our new apartment cleaned, organized and decorated. Moving in together a month before the wedding as left no time for that!
