(Sister Shortcake and friend started baking cupcakes at midnight)
Because we had the bridal shower the next day, we had to leave my engagement party early. My mother, Sister Shortcake, a dear friend, and I stayed up until four in the morning setting up all of our decorations and preparing food for the next day.
Good thing too, because the next morning, guests started arriving at 10 AM, instead of at noon as the invitation had stated!

(Hurry girls! Company’s coming!)
There was food EVERYWHERE. My mother is a spectacular cook, and made enough food to last two weeks. We had dishes packed tightly on all of the counters, on the kitchen table, on the dining room table, on the side tables, and the on coffee tables! Unfortunately, I only got a picture of the appetizer table, so you’ll have to take my word for it—the food was amazing!

As guests started arriving, we were frantically putting out food, offering drinks, and trying to make small talk while wielding knives and holding platters. As the bride, I was constantly dashing to the front door to answer it, as well as trying to help out my then stressed-out MOH and mother. Only one of my bridesmaids arrived early to help out, but I’m so thankful that she did. When Youngest Sister Shortcake arrived, she took it upon herself to give drinks to everyone. Gotta love self-imposed delegation!

(flattering pictures of people eating? check!)
Everyone loved the food. I was SO hungry, but when I finally sat down, I promptly spilled artichoke and crab dip all over the front of my white and pink dress. I was sitting front and centre, so everyone saw it happen. Even though they laughed good-naturedly, I was beyond humiliated. I ran upstairs to put on a cardigan over my stained dress, and vowed not to eat anything at my wedding, either!

(Sister Shortcake and helpful bridesmaid)
After everyone but me had had their fill of the yummy food, Sister Shortcake announced that we’d be playing games next. She had so carefully prepared for them that it was especially crushing when one elderly relative of ours rudely announced that she “didn’t want to play games—and why couldn’t [they] just give [me] the gifts and go home already!”
Luckily, everyone else was game for further festivities.
Sister Shortcake had prepared several games: a rousing set of bridal bingo. We gave everyone pink tiles to uses as writing surfaces, and handed out pink sparkly pens and wedding-themed stamp markers!

We also played the classic “what’s in your purse?” game.

Also, there was a bridal questionnaire. Because she had so carefully selected the prizes, Sister Shortcake decided to make the questionnaire game exceptionally tricky:
An example question:
“What is Miss Shortcake’s favourite colour?”
A) Pink
B) Turquoise
C) Coral
D) Sparkles
Can you guess what it was?

(getting stumped)
Everyone seemed to enjoy the food, the decorations, and the games. One thing that I really enjoyed was the visual treat that my guests provided me—Sister Shortcake had requested that everyone wear pink, and they did!
