The Jitters!

September 11th, 2008 @ 4:41 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I have the jitters. No, it’s not from my Tall Pumpkin Spiced Latte that I have been nursing all morning (although, that might be partly to blame). I’m a ball of nerves that won’t seem to go away.

It all started about a month ago when we started having some vendor debacles — I’ll fill you in on the details after the wedding. But once all those issues got resolved, the jitters didn’t seem to go away. I’m not nervous about marrying Mr. Cookie, and to be honest Mr. Cookie and I are already married in each other’s hearts. I’m not nervous about about the day going according to plan, because it probably won’t. I’m not nervous about the weather, although I did set my Google Desktop Weather Widget location to Breckenridge. I am a little nervous about people getting lost trying to find the location, but even then Lil’ Bro Cookie is making signs to direct people up to Ten Mile Station — it’s not enough to warrant the jitters.

As Mr. Cookie and I were getting our marriage licence yesterday, I finally realized what the jitters were — the mounting anticipation of a momentous life event. It’s the time in between serenity and the endorphin rush.

In a mixed tape Mr. Cookie made for me when I lived in DC, he put Tom Petty’s “The Waiting.” I’ll never forget the lyrics:

The waiting is the hardest part
Every day you see one more card
You take it on faith, you take it to the heart
The waiting is the hardest part

The planning is complete, and I only have a few more DIY projects to complete before go-time. Now, I am just waiting for the next chapter of our lives to begin together — and I’ve got case of the jitters while waiting.

When did the wedding day jitters hit you?

Doesn’t Tom Petty have great lyrics?
I’m glad you’ll be getting married soon. Yay for the Cookies!

The wedding jitters totally snuck up on me! I consider myself a pretty calm person and I’m usually the type who loves to be the center of attention so months before the wedding when people would ask if I was nervous– I’d just laugh at them, thinking, that won’t be me. But THEN the week of the wedding I got so nervous– my stomach was in knots, I was jittery and quiet. I said to my mother– I have never felt like this in my entire life. And she said– You’ve never gotten married before– this is a big deal. And suddenly I realized, I wasn’t just nervous about the party, the logistics, the talking to people and being polite and welcoming. I was affected because there were so many emotions surrounding the moment. I wasn’t really nervous so much as sick with excitement. When I took that first step down the aisle, it all went away.
