The Dumpling-ettes

AKA, The Bridal Party

Choosing our bridal party has been Mr. Dumpling’s favorite thing about our wedding so far. He got really excited when I said he could have as many groomsmen as he wanted, even if it meant our bridal party would be lopsided. :) Really - I have 5 bridesmaids and he is up to 10 groomsmen. Ah, oh well. He’s happy and he gets to have a big bachelor party.

As for me, there are just a few girls I want standing up with me on our big day. They are all so very different from each other, but I think that will just make for a more interesting day.

So far, you’ve met my gorgeous Canadian friend, R, whose wedding was this past weekend. I plan to do a post about her fabulous DIY skills, but until then, here’s a preview:

My other MOH is my big sister, J. She’s a few years older than me and a whole heckuva lot smarter. She does something with computers, can totally do math, and every year she does medical missions in Honduras with her church. She’s pretty much awesome. I used to be her shadow when I was little, and to this day when I see her, I still follow her around like a lost puppy. She reads this blog, but is too shy to comment. Let’s all say Hi :).

Next up is Boss Lady. She really did used to be my boss. I’m not sure if I liked her at first, but I quickly discovered that we had something in common - our favorite restaurant is Chili’s. I know, fancy, huh? Only the best for us! (But really, have you eaten their chips and salsa? Yum!) She’s pregnant with her third and might not be able to make it. Keep your fingers crossed, hive!

This is H. She was my first friend when I moved to Las Vegas and we have had some crazy times that include, but are not limited to, dancing with Justin Timberlake (OMG I know!), singing along to Cyndi Lauper at the True Colors concert, and her falling asleep in the bathroom at Jet. Can you believe she let me drag her to see the Spice Girls last December when they came to town? We also have a weekly Thursday night date for Grey’s Anatomy. I think I’ll be watching her get married sometime soon……..wink wink.

Yes, we really did go see Spice Girls. Photo by me. From my nosebleed seat :(

My junior BM is Mr. Dumpling’s little cousin. I don’t think her mom wants me posting her picture on the web since she’s only 13, but seriously, this chick is cool. She has a purse collection that will make both Olson twins jealous any day of the week.

I think I want to ask one more girl, but I want to wait until I see her in person. I think it’s more special that way, ya know?

Do you have an uneven wedding party?

Chili’s is the best restaurant ever. Please don’t feel shame at all for thinking that.

Yes, their chips and salsa are amazing

As are: their margaritas, chicken enchilada soup, classic nachos, chicken fajita pita, buffalo chicken salad.

seriously, I love it there too.

I also LOVE Vegas (we went there for our mini-moon) - I’ve been having fun reading your entries so far!

thanks for posting, we’re currently thinking baout an uneven party and I’m not sure if I like the idea yet, mostly because I feel it will make our wedding party huge. I want 4 and he wants 6 and then I have a really lcose guy friend I’m thinking of including as a brides man but we’re looking at having about 100 people at our wedding - do you think this will make the bridal party too huge in comparison?

Hi Big Sister J! You really do sound awesome!! :-)

When Mr Breezy and I first started talking about our bridal party, I thought I’d have just one girl… and he said would have nine guys. I would’ve been ok with it but somehow we ended up with 3 on each side. Uneven parties are funky, I dig it.

We have an uneven party too! He drew the line at 3 and wouldn’t even consider more! I have 6-7 depending if one girl is in the country. He is not thrilled with the uneven thing, but oh well! If those are the people we want, those are the people we want!

Big Sis Dumpling

Okay, okay, I’ll come out and say hello. (Thanks Miss Sea Breeze!) Won’t my sister be the cutest bride ever? Miss Dumpling, you can follow me around like a puppy any time as long as you don’t sit on my couch cushion. ;-)

As for uneven wedding parties, I had one 15 years ago. It totally stressed me out at the time, but it turned out to be no big deal at all. I’m a few-good-friends kind of girl while Mr. Big Sis Dumpling is much more social. (He would die if he knew he was being referred to as Mr. Big Sis Dumpling!) I don’t even remember what the final counts were, but he definitely had more.

And, I agree with Rachael - more men = better. Just make sure the ones in the pics with me are cute and don’t look young enough to be my offspring. ;-)

Lastly… Miss Dumpling, you’ll pay for posting a pic of me from the 80s.

We’re having uneven numbers too- Same deal- he’s the socialite of the duo. And about the pic- it didn’t work, I was totally distracted- someone actually exists who can look great with 80’s hair :)`
