We Will Not Forget…

September 11th, 2008 @ 1:35 pm by Mrs. Champagne

Typically in traffic, I just sing along to the radio and daydream about wedding details, work issues, and other random things that pop into my head. This morning was completely different. There were planes flying above the cars below, and I couldn’t help but think about those affected most deeply by the disaster that was September 11th.

On my way to work, I was listening to the radio announcer read listener emails about their experiences seven years ago. Many of them lost husbands, wives, and children in the events of September 11th. Champ and I live in the DC area, and many of the roads around the Pentagon in Virginia are closed for a memorial today.

Champ and I are so lucky to have each other, and many of you here on Weddingbee know that there is no replacement for true love, and nothing worse than true love lost.

I didn’t want to be a Debbie Downer this morning, but I just wanted to share my appreciation and respect for the servicemen and people who helped out on September 11th and beyond. For those of us who have not lost loved ones, my hope is that we commit to fully love each other every day, as one moment can change it all.

We will not forget this day…

I work in NYC and the mood in the office is quite somber. No matter how many 9/11 anniversaries go by, that day in 2001 will always be vividly etched into my memory. God bless those families who have lost loved ones.

Thank you for posting this. My father was FDNY for 20 years. He lost his whole crew that day.

In the days following 9/11, we were most comforted and impressed by how everyone came together in our time of need with the sole purpose of doing something, anything, to help. The best way to remember is to continue that spirit of service. Getting involved with a group like this is a great start:

I was there that day as well and it is something I will never forget. The way so many people pulled together and just helped each other was amazing. I’m not just talking about people helping as the towers. People were helpingothers all over the city. A large portion of the comuter system was down or very limited and it was amazing seeing perfect strangers help people push wheel chairs uptown so that they could get home our out of the city. There were lines of people outside hospitals waiting to give blood, donating clothing, blankets and food for the volunteers, people offered strangers places to stay when they couldn’t get back to Staten Island or lived at the south end of Manhattan. I worked in the Associated Press Building in rockefeller Center (one of the possible next targets in NYC) and in our office e-mails were being sent around internally offering others a place to stay if needed or the use of a car to get out of the city if they commuted. It is amazing how strong the american people are when they stand together as a group. It just goes to show how people may normally just go about thier day but when somethign momentus happens we are a single unit, an undefeatable team who can surmount all difficulties and become the better for it.

I was waiting to board a United flight this morning to come home from a work trip when they held a moment of silence at the time when the first plane struck the tower. The entire airport stopped moving and became completely silenced. It was an unbelievable moment but I didn’t feel sad…I felt extremely proud and lucky to live in a place where we don’t allow ourselves to forget about all those people who were affected in so many ways and honor them. They will be remembered in our hearts forever. :)
