Cake Flags!

September 11th, 2008 @ 12:46 pm by Mrs. Lemonade

I love cake flags! I don’t know what it is about them but they make me smile! As soon as I saw the adorable little guys standing proudly in a slice of Mrs. Petunia’s wedding cake, I knew we had to have our very own set. I hit the interwebs searching for flags and found plenty of super cute versions.

Unfortunately they were all WAY out of our price range ($1 a flag? REALLY?). It was then that we realized we had all of the tools we needed to make said flags: toothpicks, paper, Xyron, PC/color printer, tons of patience and free time. Oh wait, I forgot to place an order for patience, and my back stock of free time was dwindling as well. Not one to give up, I instead shifted my approach. Thus, like many bees and brides-to-be before me, I decided to employ the DISE strategy (Thanks, Mrs. Peacock! You’re my hero!)

Back to the interwebs I went. This time, however, I made a beeline for my favorite little corner of the web, Etsy. I have a deep and undying love for Etsy and don’t know why I didn’t think heading there sooner!

After a bit of meandering around I came across this little shop. It was too cute! All of her flags were adorable, but I had a specific design in mind. I convoed (yes, in my world that is a word) up the lovely Bee (yes, her name is Bee too!), and before I knew it, she had whipped up some super cute designs for us to choose from. Since I’m totally indecisive about every little detail, I asked if we could do a mix, and she happily obliged.

Since then I’ve been waiting ever so patiently by the mailbox anticipating their arrival. Imagine my delight when this arrived yesterday:

All the way from Australia… I know, I know, we totally need to buy some carbon credits to offset the shipping…

Inside the package, I found this:

I love ordering from Etsy– you always get the sweetest handwritten notes with your goods!

I searched for a proper cake to test them out in but all I could come up with was this lame, half-eaten cheesecake:

Cake Flags! : wedding cake san antonio Inchee01

It’s still cute, no?

How are you sprucing up your cake service?
