It’s finally starting to feel real.
Well, okay, it also started to feel real when we sent out the invites… and when I bought my dress… and when I found my wedding day shoes. But those things were all “ohmygosh-we’re-really-getting-married”-real.
This time it’s “ohmygosh-we’re-really-going-to-Punta-Cana-to-get-married” -real. Last Friday was the deadline for all our guests to pay the rest of their hotel and flight balances. I was a bit nervous all last week, since, if people were going to bail out of coming to our wedding, that’s when it would have happened. The $200 deposit per person was due back in May, but the balance wasn’t due until last week. That was a long time, and who was to know what could have happened in four months (People could have gotten pregnant, that’s what… at least, with our friends.)!
Recently, reader Laura commented on my post about the invitations we made, asking what the ‘travel info’ card that we included with our invitations looked like. I can’t believe I forgot to show you. Here it is:

Actually, to be honest, those are not exactly like the ones we sent out. We printed 200 of these suckers above on our printer in a long and painful process which involved taping each 3″ x 12″ piece of card stock to an ordinary piece of white 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper so that the stupid printer would accept it. (The purple card stock was leftover from our invitation cuttings, and we didn’t want it to go to waste, so we figured we could use it for the travel info cards. Totally not worth the savings, I’m telling you.)
Once they were done, I looked at the cards only to realize that there was a very crucial bit of information missing on them. Can you tell what it is?
The DEADLINE by which they had to get in touch with the travel agent was missing! D’oh! Word to the wise: get someone to proof-read EVERYTHING for you.
So, we had to redo all 200 of them. Sigh. In the end, our travel info cards said: To reserve your flight and hotel package, contact our good friend and travel agent [name] by [date]. That was followed by the agent’s contact info and our wedding website address. It was quite simple, but effective.
Part of me regrets not having included a real RSVP card with the invitations, though. I figured that we’d know who was coming by who booked their tickets with our agents. The other few people that are coming but making their own arrangements either called us or left us a note on our wedding website, which was awesome.
But I can’t help wondering about all those others who got an invitation but who we haven’t heard from. I know they’re not coming, obviously, but it still feels weird to not have heard from them, you know?
Anyway, unless there are some last minute latecomers, we will have 66 people celebrating with us in the Dominican, which is pretty freakin’ awesome, if you ask me.
Did you have that “ohmygosh-it’s-real” feeling when all your RSVPs finally came in? Is there anything about your RSVP cards that you would have done differently?
