About Mrs. Pineapple

Our Second First Wedding

September 15th, 2008 @ 10:59 am by Mrs. Pineapple

The last four months have been full of changes in the Pineapple household. We have a new home, new jobs, and a new puppy. The biggest change we were planning for was to occur on October 18—our wedding. For many reasons, the most important being our love for one another and our families, we have decided to get married this week—a month earlier than we had originally planned.

So, what does this mean for us, exactly? Well, we are still going to have our wedding, almost as planned, in October. The main difference will be that we will already be a family. We are going to write our October ceremony as a vow renewal. There may be some changes as far as officiating and such, but we still plan to have a fancy party and I’ll still wear a poofy dress.

We want this “second first wedding” to be simple, but still as special as any wedding should be.

In the next few days I will share with you my adventures in planning a wedding in less than a week. There will be a new dress, new flowers, a new location, and of course, the legalities of a license and a magistrate. It should be a pretty easy wedding to plan. We already have everything we need—our parents, one another, and a whole lotta love.

Were you or anyone you know married before your wedding reception?

Two is always better than one. ;-) Hugs to you both, and may your first ceremony be as intimate, sweet, and special as your relationship with one another.

my husband and I were officially married 6 months before our wedding (for legal reasons). I don’t regret it at all :)

I hope everything is okay. Best wishes to you both this week, as you become a family. The second wedding will be just as great as you imagined, and this first wedding will be the intimate affair a lot of couples secretly wish for. Congrats!

I had friends who did this due to a military deployment in the family….and they had a blast at the “vow ceremony & reception” b/c all that pre-wedding stress was over. I have to admit it sounds a bit tempting to just elope with our parents and then turn the wedding/reception into a reception.

Good for you!!!
Mr.Melbatoast and I did the same thing. In August we decided to have our engagement pictures done and booked the 13th. All of a sudden we didnt want to wait 7 more months to get married. So we planned it in two days, yes i said that right 2 days. Got the marriage license, bought the wedding rings and booked the marriage commissioner all the same day. We married in a very very small but beautiful ceremony in an old victorian house the same day as our engagement pictures. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak. It was the best day ever. No stress at all. Got married @ 3pm and then spent the entire evening with our photographer taking what we now call the marriage day pictures all over our fair city. Ending the night romantically at the top of the ferris wheel at the local fair.

We originally planned to have our wedding on the beach in Mexico in February. Which we still are, but like you, it will be a vow renewal.

We actually just did the same thing. We are having a destination wedding in November but we wanted to be legally married first. I loved our ceremony and wouldn’t change it for the world.

I like what you wrote:
“We already have everything we need—our parents, one another, and a whole lotta love.”

because that’s what our ceremony was all about too.

With my ex-husband we married twice, once in November then a second ceremony in February. Even now with my current fiance, we’re planning a ceremony, but also aware that we may wait another 6 months to finalize the official paperwork.

I must say that I am very partial to your dress as that was the original dress that I chose for my 8/8/08 wedding. However, as many brides have done, I ended up buying a different dress becuase that dress just didn’t fit me the way I would have liked…it is a great dress though. I wore a flower in my hair which is what I was going to wear with dress number one (your dress)…just use the model as your guide. I ended up selling my dress on Weddingbee to another bride who was looking for this same dress…she was so happy to find it and she looked great in it.

Due to a death in the family, we had to postpone our big wedding and reception, so we had a quickie beach wedding instead (Planned in less than 72 hours! We even had to get a special waiver for our license!). Then we had a big vow renewal/reception for our first anniversary.

Pros: We got married when we wanted and didn’t have to wait. Also, it took *some* of the stress of the big event.

Cons: My parents and sister couldn’t be at the beach wedding, we had way fewer guests come to the vow renewal than would have come the year before, and the renewal/reception felt like it lacked a tiny bit of the magic or anticipation that it would have otherwise had.

In retrospect, I am glad we did things the way we did. I wouldn’t have wanted to wait any longer to be husband and wife, but I still got my dream wedding.
